Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” video starring Zoey Deutch is a snowy romance filmed in Hintertux, Austria. It debuted on November 9, 2017—not in 2026—and builds its holiday atmosphere around a love story that echoes the song’s childhood-friends premise.
When did the “Perfect” video come out?
The official video accompanied Sheeran’s single “Perfect” and debuted on Thursday, November 9, 2017, according to iHeartRadio’s launch coverage. Headlines at the time called it “new”; that description referred to its 2017 premiere.
Who is Zoey Deutch in the video?
Deutch plays the romantic lead opposite Sheeran. Their story unfolds as a winter getaway, with snow and ski slopes giving the video a festive, Christmas-season look. The setting and cast details were reported by iHeartRadio and Official Charts.
Where was it filmed, and what happens?
The video was filmed in Hintertux, an Austrian ski area. Its snowy scenery frames a romantic trip, while the story draws on the song’s premise of falling for someone known since childhood. Why did Sheeran make it a Christmas-style romance?
Sheeran said Christmas inspired the concept. In iHeartRadio’s November 9, 2017 coverage, he explained: “I came up with the idea of the video because I like Christmas,” adding, “There’s not enough Christmas music videos out nowadays so I wanted snow and romance.”
He also embraced the song’s sentimental tone with a joke: “And you know, the song’s cheesy anyway and I thought we might as well just go full-blown Swiss cheese on it.” The line captures the video’s deliberate choice to lean into unabashed romance rather than undercut it.
