What are Jennifer Aniston’s best and worst movie roles? This film-first ranking weighs how central each part is, what Aniston does with it, how distinctive the character feels, and how well the performance works in its film. “Watchable” and “lovable” are judgments, not objective grades; a small supporting role can outrank a lead if it leaves a sharper impression.

The list spans broad comedies, relationship films and independent dramas. It does not rank Aniston’s television work: Rachel Green on Friends made her a star, and Alex Levy on The Morning Show is another major screen role. Here, the focus is her movie career.

Jennifer Aniston’s movie roles, ranked

  1. She’s the One — Renee

Renee is part of an ensemble relationship comedy centered on two brothers, so the role has less room to define the film than Aniston’s later leads. It lands near the bottom because the character is less distinctive than the performances farther up this list, not because a film’s aggregate reception can grade Aniston’s acting.

  2. Dream for an Insomniac — Allison

As a supporting player in this romantic comedy, Aniston has limited space to shape the story. The part is a useful early-career entry, but its small scale makes it less memorable than the fuller comic and dramatic characters that follow.

  3. Wanderlust — Linda

Linda is one half of a married couple who encounter a commune. Aniston fits the film’s comedy, but the premise and ensemble leave less room for a singular character portrait. It is an easy enough watch, though not among her most revealing turns.

  4. Life of Crime — Mickey Dawson

Mickey begins as a trophy wife caught in a kidnapping plot, then starts influencing the people holding her. That shift gives Aniston a more active role than a simple damsel-in-distress setup would, though the film’s crime-comedy machinery competes with the character for attention.

  5. Friends with Money — Olivia

Olivia works as a house cleaner while navigating friendships with people whose financial security differs sharply from hers. The role gives Aniston room to play insecurity and uncertainty rather than polished romantic-comedy confidence. Its quieter, less plot-driven approach may feel modest, but it is an important part of her independent-film range.

  6. Rock Star — Emily Poule

Emily is the girlfriend of an aspiring singer whose life changes when fame arrives. Aniston serves as a grounded counterweight to the music-world spectacle. The role is not the film’s center, but it makes the cost of the singer’s ambition legible in personal terms.

  7. The Object of My Affection — Nina

Nina is a social worker whose friendship with George complicates her hopes for romance and family. The part asks Aniston to balance affection, disappointment and determination; it is less driven by punchlines than many of her better-known comedies.

  8. Horrible Bosses — Dr. Julia Harris

Aniston makes a deliberately against-type comic turn as Julia, a sexually aggressive dentist. The character is outrageous by design, and that excess is the point: she gives the movie a memorable source of discomfort and comic friction. The performance stands out even when the broadness of the part is not to every viewer’s taste.

  9. The Good Girl — Justine

Justine, a small-town makeup-counter worker, is one of Aniston’s most restrained dramatic parts. Rather than leaning on her familiar comic rhythm, she builds a quieter portrait of someone dissatisfied with the life she has. Rotten Tomatoes lists the film at 82% with critics and 59% with audiences in its snapshot accessed October 7, 2026; those are film scores, not ratings of Aniston’s performance.

  10. The Switch — Kassie Larson

Kassie decides to have a child, but a friend’s deception changes the circumstances. Aniston gives the romantic-comedy premise an emotional center, playing a woman whose choices and parental hopes matter beyond the setup’s joke. The role works best when the story lets her be decisive as well as warm.

  11. Marley & Me — Jenny Grogan

Jenny’s marriage and family life unfold alongside the life of the family dog. The part gives Aniston a steady presence in a story that moves through the ordinary pressures and joys of building a household. Its emotional reach comes from that accumulation of family moments rather than a showcase speech or a comic set piece.

  12. Dumplin’ — Rosie Dickson

Rosie is a former beauty queen whose relationship with her daughter is strained by a pageant. The film gives Aniston a more complicated maternal role: Rosie’s investment in appearances and tradition sits alongside the care she has trouble expressing. Rotten Tomatoes’ October 7, 2026 snapshot lists the film at 86% with critics and 72% with audiences, figures that describe the film’s reception rather than Aniston’s acting.

  13. We’re the Millers — Rose O’Reilly

Rose, a stripper recruited into a fabricated family for a road trip, lets Aniston mix sharp comic timing with a character who is more than the joke attached to her job. The role has a clear arc within a farce, and she remains an engaging center as the contrived family starts to feel real. Rotten Tomatoes’ snapshot accessed October 7, 2026 gives the film 48% from critics and 77% from audiences; neither number is a performance score.

  14. Cake — Claire Simmons

Claire lives with chronic pain and grief after a car crash. The film is an against-type dramatic vehicle, and Aniston’s performance is its strongest reason to stay with a difficult character rather than expect an easy transformation. Rotten Tomatoes describes her performance as critically acclaimed, while its film-level snapshot accessed October 7, 2026 shows 49% from critics and 44% from audiences. Those figures are not contradictory: a performance can draw praise even when a film’s overall reception is mixed.

  15. Office Space — Joanna

Joanna is a restaurant server whose conflict over “pieces of flair” gives her a compact but instantly recognizable subplot in the workplace satire. The part is not large, yet Aniston makes its frustration crisp and funny; it is a strong example of how a supporting role can outshine a more substantial but less specific one. Rotten Tomatoes lists Office Space at 82% with critics and 93% with audiences in its snapshot accessed October 7, 2026. Those are film scores, not an acting grade.

How to read the ranking

The order favors parts that give Aniston a distinctive character to play and that make good use of her range, not simply the biggest screen time or the most popular movie. Looper’s May 17, 2022 watchability feature supplied a useful pool of 15 films, but this order is an editorial judgment rather than an objective canon. Rotten Tomatoes’ percentages are dynamic film-level critic and audience scores; they can change and should not be mistaken for ratings of an individual performance.
