The age was correct: Theodor Geisel was born on March 2, 1904. The list is a historical roundup, however, not a set of quotations individually documented to their original books or interviews.
What the 2015 birthday article establishes
Tech Times’ March 2, 2015 article by Laura Rosenfeld presents 14 entries as Dr. Seuss quotes and says the list draws on his books and past interviews. It does not identify a book, page, interview, or other source for each line. That makes it a record of what the article attributed to Seuss—not proof that he wrote or said every entry.
Penguin Random House identifies Dr. Seuss as Theodor Geisel, born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1904, and records his death on September 24, 1991. The 111th-birthday framing therefore belongs to the 2015 publication date; it is not a current birthday feature. Which sayings can be checked against a publisher source?
A Penguin Random House author profile attributes this wording to Geisel: “Children want the same things we want. To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained and delighted.” The same profile attributes “A person’s a person, no matter how small” to him. For the remaining sayings, the available source trail does not establish item-by-item authenticity. In particular, the roundup’s ninth entry is a long life-advice passage without a cited original source. It should not be repeated as verified Seuss wording on the strength of this article or of repetition on quote websites.
How to verify a Dr. Seuss quotation
- Find the original context. Look for the wording in the relevant book or a recorded, published interview rather than relying on a quote collection’s attribution.
- Check the exact wording. A familiar idea may appear in altered forms online; compare the line with the authorized text before using quotation marks.
- Separate attribution from documentation. If a source names Seuss but provides no original reference, describe the line as “attributed to Dr. Seuss by” that source, not as confirmed wording.
Books for browsing and source-checking
Penguin Random House lists Seuss-isms! A Guide to Life for Those Just Starting Out…and Those Already on Their Way as a 64-page hardcover collection, published January 6, 2015 (ISBN 9780553508413). If the goal is to check a quotation, consult the original storybook or another publisher-authorized source for its context and wording. The official Dr. Seuss website also lists original books and boxed sets.
