The available captions identify eight dated images and one undated mother-daughter image shown in the documentary My Mom Jayne; they do not establish 11 distinct photos. The family relationships also need a distinction: Nelson Sardelli is Hargitay’s biological father, while Mickey Hargitay raised her and is the father she has described as her own.
Who is pictured in Mariska Hargitay’s family photos?
Jayne Mansfield was Mariska Hargitay’s mother. Hargitay has said Nelson Sardelli is her biological father; Mickey Hargitay raised her, and she has said, “It doesn’t matter, and nothing can change the fact that Mickey Hargitay is my father.” In captions, references to Mickey as her father mean the parent who raised her, not biological paternity. The Los Angeles Times interview discusses these relationships.
The children identified across the photographs include Mariska, Jayne Marie Mansfield, Mickey Hargitay Jr. (also called Miklos), Zoltan Hargitay and Tony Cimber. They are siblings, but not all share the same parents: Jayne Marie and Tony have different fathers from the Hargitay children. After Mansfield died in 1967, Mickey Hargitay and his later wife Ellen Siano helped raise Mariska and two of her brothers, according to TIME’s 2025 review.

Date unknown: A mother-daughter image in My Mom Jayne
An undated photograph of Mansfield and Mariska appears in the documentary. Its date and setting are not established by the gallery caption. The documentary’s pressroom describes the film as drawing on photographs and home movies as Hargitay seeks to know and understand her mother. Credit: Alamy Stock Photo/HBO.
Why the documentary puts these photographs in context
Hargitay was three when Mansfield died at 34 in a 1967 car crash, according to the Warner Bros. Discovery pressroom and the Los Angeles Times. My Mom Jayne follows Hargitay’s effort to revisit her mother’s life through interviews, photographs and home movies. Speaking with the Los Angeles Times on June 27, 2025, Hargitay said, “Why now? Because I was finally ready.” She described the film as a way to reframe her mother’s story.
The documentary pressroom’s media-asset list names Hargitay, Mansfield, Mickey Hargitay Jr., Jayne Marie Mansfield and Zoltan Hargitay. It provides documentary context, but the specific image dates and credits above come from the gallery captions.
Image credits are not reproduction permission
The gallery’s credits identify archives, agencies and image providers, but they are not licenses. Anyone publishing these photographs should clear reproduction rights directly with the relevant rights holder. The undated documentary image should remain explicitly undated unless a reliable source establishes when it was taken.
