Bam Bam Bigelow’s WWE story has two distinct chapters: an eye-catching 1987 arrival and a return in the mid-1990s that led to his WrestleMania XI main event against NFL star Lawrence Taylor. These ten points trace the moments that shaped his WWE run—and why his later success in ECW and WCW matters to the larger picture.
1. His WWE career came in two chapters
Bigelow debuted in WWE in 1987, then spent years working elsewhere before returning in the mid-1990s. That gap matters: his WWE history was not one continuous run. WWE’s profile describes both periods.
2. WWE presented him as a prize arrival
Bigelow drew immediate attention when he joined WWE. According to WWE’s account, managers Bobby Heenan, Slick and Mr. Fuji competed to acquire him before he chose Oliver Humperdink. The story established him as a major new attraction rather than an ordinary debut. WWE’s profile recounts the manager competition.
3. He made an impact at the first Survivor Series
At the inaugural Survivor Series in 1987, Bigelow pinned both King Kong Bundy and One Man Gang in the same elimination match before Andre the Giant eliminated him. That sequence put him in the company of formidable opponents and gave his first WWE chapter a memorable early showcase. WWE records the match in its profile and career overview.

4. His billed size made his agility stand out
WWE lists Bigelow at 6 feet 4 inches and 390 pounds; those are his billed statistics, not independently verified measurements. The same profile highlights moves such as moonsaults and diving headbutts. The contrast between that imposing billed size and his ability to move dynamically became a defining part of his appeal.
5. His flames made him instantly recognizable
Bigelow’s flame tattoos covered his skull, and WWE says his ring attire matched the design. The combination created a distinctive silhouette: even before he moved, the flames set him apart. WWE’s career overview describes the visual connection between his tattoos and attire.

6. WrestleMania XI put him across the ring from Lawrence Taylor
Bigelow’s second WWE chapter led to a high-profile celebrity crossover. On April 2, 1995, WrestleMania XI in Hartford closed with Bigelow facing NFL star Lawrence Taylor. It was the event’s final match, not a championship bout. WWE identifies the pairing in its WrestleMania XI event page and its retrospective.
7. WWE framed the feud as beginning with a Royal Rumble incident
WWE’s retrospective says Taylor tried to offer Bigelow a friendly gesture after Bigelow’s embarrassing loss in a tag-team tournament setting, and Bigelow shoved him. That account supplies the on-screen setup for their rivalry; it should be understood as WWE’s storyline framing, not as proof of private events outside the show. WWE’s March 8, 2007 retrospective recounts the incident.

8. Taylor won the WrestleMania XI main event by pinfall
WWE’s recap says Taylor landed two football tackles and a flying fist before pinning Bigelow. The result made the crossover match’s outcome clear: Taylor won, rather than Bigelow taking victory over the visiting star. Afterward, Bigelow was kicked out of Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Corporation. WWE’s main-event recap details the finish and its aftermath.
9. The match remains a touchstone for his athleticism
Diamond Dallas Page, Bigelow’s friend and WCW teammate, later singled out the Taylor match as evidence of Bigelow’s ability and professionalism. In WWE’s memorial published January 23, 2007, Page said: “I mean look how he carried that match with Lawrence Taylor at WrestleMania. You can’t look at his career without that match because it showed how pure an athlete he was, and how great a professional he was along with that.” It is a teammate’s personal assessment, not a measured performance statistic. WWE’s memorial also quotes Page saying, “He moved like a cat, especially when he was younger.”

10. ECW and WCW added chapters beyond WWE
Bigelow’s career did not end with his WWE appearances. WWE says he won the ECW World Title and had a major rivalry with Tazz, then later teamed with Page in WCW for a championship run. Those achievements broaden his legacy beyond the WrestleMania XI match and show why his WWE story is only part of his wrestling career. See WWE’s profile and memorial.
