His defining milestone came when he became Sorcerer Supreme—and Marvel has since placed him in stories as a supernatural ally and a teacher at Strange Academy.
1. Brother Voodoo and Doctor Voodoo are the same character
Jericho Drumm first operated as Brother Voodoo before adopting the name Doctor Voodoo. Marvel’s character profile identifies both names with Drumm, so readers may encounter either alias depending on the story or period.
2. His first appearance was in Strange Tales #169
Marvel lists Strange Tales (1951) #169 as Jericho Drumm’s first appearance. The year in the series title is part of the publication’s identifier; the issue number is #169.
3. Marvel’s origin connects Drumm to Haitian Vodou
In Marvel’s account of his origin, Drumm has a strong spiritual and psychic connection to his native culture. After being led astray by a false god, he becomes a houngan—a Haitian Vodou priest, as Marvel glosses the term—and takes up the Brother Voodoo identity. This is a description of Marvel’s fictional character and story, not a general account of the living religion.

4. He became Sorcerer Supreme in New Avengers #54
Marvel says Drumm took the title Doctor Voodoo in New Avengers (2004) #54, the same issue in which he became the next Sorcerer Supreme. Marvel’s account of Wong’s history adds that Drumm was named to the office after Wong was considered.
5. One story shows him turning the dead against the High Evolutionary
Marvel recounts a confrontation in which Drumm brings the souls of people killed by the High Evolutionary to attack him. It is a vivid example of how Marvel depicts Drumm’s supernatural abilities, not a complete catalogue of his powers.

6. He has worked alongside other supernatural heroes

7. He became headmaster of Strange Academy
Marvel identifies Jericho Drumm as headmaster of Strange Academy, a school with a faculty of mystics and magic users. The role gives him a different kind of responsibility from his work as a hero: he helps guide younger characters learning to navigate magic.

8. His stories continue in newer Marvel titles
Marvel’s Doctor Voodoo comics index includes appearances in Strange Academy, Strange Academy: Blood Hunt, Incredible Hulk (2023), and Storm (2024). The index is a changing catalogue, so it is best read as a selection of listed titles rather than a permanent or exhaustive bibliography.
9. Marvel has given him both serious and humorous treatment
A humorous Marvel article frames Drumm as someone who can verify possession and notes his time as Sorcerer Supreme. That is comic editorial characterization, not medical guidance; it also shows how Marvel can use his supernatural expertise for a lighter beat.
