The list is an attributed editorial judgment, not a definitive consensus: a single critic’s ranking, review aggregates and audience ratings measure different things. A24’s catalog is the basis for the film slate, with release-calendar distinctions relevant to titles that reached different territories at different times.
How this ranking works
The order below follows Cinephile Corner’s December 23, 2025 ranking. Its placements reflect that publication’s critical judgments; they should not be read as a universal verdict on the year. The A24 catalog confirms the studio’s film slate, but release timing can vary by territory, so “2025” does not necessarily mean every title opened theatrically in every country during that calendar year.

Critic scores and audience ratings offer useful context, but they are separate measures rather than a substitute for the ranking’s craft, performances, originality, ambition and thematic reach. The Associated Press also included Marty Supreme in its year-end top ten; that independent selection is additional recognition, not proof of a shared ranking.
The 10 greatest A24 movies of 2025
1. Eddington
Ari Aster’s jagged political fever dream tops this list for its portrait of paranoia and doomscrolling. Rather than offering a comfortable distance from contemporary American anxieties, it turns them into the film’s unsettled atmosphere. Aster is credited as writer-director on A24’s film page.

#1 Best Overall
- The story of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.
2. Marty Supreme
Josh Safdie sets this story in the 1950s and follows table-tennis player Marty Mauser. Its restless ambition earned it second place here, and AP film writer Lindsey Bahr included it among her year’s best, writing, “The annals of great New York movies have a new one.”
Rotten Tomatoes listed the film at 93% on the Tomatometer across 364 reviews and 82% on the Popcornmeter across more than 5,000 verified ratings when accessed October 4, 2026. These are live aggregates, not fixed scores or direct measures of the same audience.
Rank #2
- Paul Rudd
- Tim Robinson
- Andrew DeYoung
- 2025
- A24
3. Friendship
This unusually uncomfortable comedy makes awkwardness part of its method, then lets emotional consequences emerge from the discomfort. Its particular appeal depends on whether Tim Robinson’s distinctive comic style works for you; the ranking values the film’s willingness to follow that style into less predictable territory.
4. Highest 2 Lowest
Spike Lee reimagines Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low, with Denzel Washington leading a story that brings Lee’s own formal energy to a classic premise. The placement recognizes the ambition of translating an established work through a contemporary filmmaker’s perspective. A24’s page confirms Lee, the 2025 title and its cast and premise.
Rank #3
- Alex Garland
- Ray Mendoza
- D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai
- Will Poulter
- Cosmo Jarvis
5. If I Had Legs I’d Kick You
A tense, intimate film about motherhood under pressure, it keeps the viewer close to a performance-led point of view. That closeness makes the strain feel immediate rather than neatly explained, and is central to why it stands out in this ranking.
6. On Becoming a Guinea Fowl
This title belongs in the year’s A24 conversation, though its release calendar may look different depending on territory. The distinction matters when comparing it with films whose US theatrical launches define their apparent year; the A24 catalog lists it among the 2025 titles.
Rank #4
- A young woman reluctantly joins her boyfriend on a summer trip where things quickly go awry.
7. Sorry, Baby
Eva Victor’s film approaches difficult subject matter with a light touch and wry humor, balancing pain with a distinctive comic sensibility. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus called it a “triumphant” announcement of Victor’s talent as writer-director and star.
At access on October 4, 2026, Rotten Tomatoes showed a 97% Tomatometer across 200 reviews and an 84% Popcornmeter across more than 100 verified ratings. Both numbers are time-sensitive aggregates; one reflects critics’ reviews and the other verified audience ratings.
Best Value
- Directed by Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou
- Written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman
- Starring Sally Hawkins
8. Warfare
Co-directed by Alex Garland and former Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza, Warfare favors a grounded, immediate approach. Its position reflects the force of that directness and the filmmaking partnership behind it, rather than a claim that all viewers will respond to its intensity in the same way.
9. The Smashing Machine
This sports drama earns its place through performance and direction, using the demands of the genre to shape a portrait of a fighter. Ninth place is specific to Cinephile Corner’s ordering; it is not a statement of broad critical consensus.
10. Materialists
Celine Song expands her scale and ensemble dynamics here, exploring a different kind of romantic story than her earlier, more intimate work. The ranking sees that reach as an interesting experiment, while finding the result less precise and intimate. A24 identifies Song as the film’s writer-director on its official page.

Review percentages can help identify critical or audience reception, but they do not explain why a movie works, and the two Rotten Tomatoes measures should not be compared as if they were one scale. For example, the Associated Press independently selected Marty Supreme, while the cited Rotten Tomatoes figures show separate critic and audience aggregates. Availability is also changeable: at the cited access time, Rotten Tomatoes listed Marty Supreme and Sorry, Baby as streaming on Max and available to rent or buy through Fandango. Check the film’s current listing for your country before planning a watch.
For collectors, TechRadar reported a Marty Supreme 4K Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos, released March 31, 2026 in the US and April 6, 2026 in the UK. Those dates identify the reported edition’s regional release timing, not current stock or price; confirm the edition and availability with a retailer. A24 film pages may also link to retailer options and shop discs, but inventory and regional options can change.
