The figure describes the film’s domestic debut—not its worldwide earnings or lifetime box office.
How much did Tron: Ares make on its opening weekend?
The Associated Press reported a $33.5 million U.S. opening weekend on October 12, 2025, citing Comscore Sunday estimates. The Numbers and Box Office Mojo list the opening at $33,241,433. Those figures are consistent: the AP’s rounded estimate and the databases’ more exact totals reflect different reporting formats, not a materially different result.
The Numbers’ listing and Box Office Mojo’s listing identify the figure as the opening weekend total. It should not be read as the film’s full theatrical run.
Why was the opening described as a slow start?
The AP said the film opened at number one but fell short of expectations. “Slow start” is a characterization of that gap, not a formal box-office category. A No. 1 debut indicates that Tron: Ares led the weekend’s domestic chart; it does not, by itself, show whether the film met its financial targets.

- Get ready for the electrifying action and adventure of “Tron: Ares.” When a highly sophisticated Program named Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, it marks humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
How does it compare with Tron: Legacy?
In its October 12, 2025 report, the AP compared Tron: Ares’s opening with Tron: Legacy, which it said opened to $44 million 15 years earlier. On that reported comparison, Ares began below its predecessor domestically. The comparison is limited to opening weekends as reported by the AP; it does not establish which film ultimately earned more over its full release.
What is known about the film and its production budget?
Disney lists Tron: Ares as a theatrical release dated October 10, 2025, directed by Joachim Rønning. Its principal cast includes Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges. Disney’s film page provides the release and cast details.

Published production-cost figures are estimates and do not agree: The Numbers lists an estimated $180 million budget, while the AP described the project cost as around $150 million. Neither figure should be treated here as a confirmed official budget. Because the reported opening covers only one weekend and the cost estimates differ, those numbers alone cannot establish whether the film was profitable.
