The studio audience groaned, and Joy Behar challenged her: “How do you say that, though?” Griffin was offering a hypothetical political judgment—not reporting an election result or a verified forecast.
What Alyssa Farah Griffin said on The View
During a discussion about a poll and the state of democracy, Griffin said: “I think if the election were re-held today, Donald Trump would win by the same if not a bigger margin.” The Daily Beast and Entertainment Weekly both reported the prediction and the audience’s audible groans on September 26, 2025. The Daily Beast’s report and Entertainment Weekly’s recap published by AOL describe the exchange.
Behar responded, “How do you say that, though?” The question captured the disagreement in the studio: Griffin was making a claim about how voters might behave in a hypothetical replay, not describing something that had been tested in an actual rerun.
Why Griffin thought Trump could do as well or better
Griffin’s argument centered on polarization and voters’ priorities. She acknowledged that people opposed to Trump might dislike him more and that some voters could feel buyer’s remorse, but said those reactions would not necessarily change the outcome. She also argued that cost-of-living concerns could weigh more heavily for voters than appeals about democracy, and cited a poll as evidence that Republicans had greater trust on leading issues. These were Griffin’s interpretations, not conclusions established by the groans or by the reports of the conversation.

The Daily Caller identified the poll Griffin referenced as Reuters/Ipsos and summarized issue-specific trust findings. The underlying poll was not independently reviewed for this account, and Entertainment Weekly’s recap describes Griffin referring to a poll without naming it. Treat the poll characterization as reported context, not as independently confirmed proof of her prediction. The Daily Caller’s September 26 coverage provides its account of the poll reference.
What the audience’s groans do—and do not—show
Coverage described audible groans from the studio audience. That is evidence of a reaction in the room, not a formal audience survey and not a measure of how viewers nationwide felt. Behar’s challenge is a reported response from a co-host. OK! Magazine separately described Sara Haines reacting with a dropped jaw, but the shared details in the Daily Beast and Entertainment Weekly accounts are the groans and Behar’s question. OK! Magazine’s recap also covered the studio response.

A hypothetical prediction is not an election result
Griffin’s statement concerned what might happen if the 2024 contest were held again. No such rerun took place, and the coverage of the segment does not validate the prediction. Her reasoning rested on her reading of polarization, economic priorities, and polling she cited; the studio reaction shows that the remark drew an immediate response, not whether it was right.
