The result is an uneven continuation: not a collapse, but not a convincing replacement for the chemistry of the original quartet either.
Is Season 3 any good without Reneé Rapp?
Season 3 works best as a transitional season. It gives Kimberly, Bela and Whitney new sophomore-year stories, while Leighton’s departure forces the show to rebuild the roommate dynamic that helped define its first two seasons. That shift is the season’s central challenge, and Matthew Creith’s November 18, 2024 review for TheWrap argues that the series does not fully overcome it.
Creith describes Rapp’s appearance as surprisingly short and says the four leads had a magnetic chemistry that is sorely missed. That is a critical judgment, not a claim that the remaining cast cannot carry scenes. Rather, the season’s jokes and individual performances often land, but the ensemble feels less complete after Leighton goes.
What still works
The comedy retains its voice
The show’s sexual comedy and Mindy Kaling’s pop-culture-heavy wit remain part of its appeal. Creith points to a memorable mascot sequence for Bela and a Y2K-party set piece as highlights. Those moments show that the series can still deliver comic bursts, even when the season’s larger shape feels unsettled.

New and supporting characters get room
Gracie Lawrence joins the season as Kacey, while Ilia Isorelýs Paulino’s Lila receives an expanded role. Their increased presence gives the show new character material to work with. Creith sees promise in those additions, though they do not automatically recreate the specific give-and-take of the original four-person group.
Where the season loses momentum
The main weakness is not a shortage of comic ideas so much as the way some stories are handled. Creith finds that certain plotlines are short-changed, resolved too quickly or left without satisfying finality. The early resolution of conflict between Kimberly and Whitney is one example of how the season can move past a potentially substantial thread before it has much time to develop.
That uneven pacing affects the emotional side of the series, too. The show still wants to balance sex comedy with questions of identity, relationships and growing up, but not every storyline receives enough space for its payoff to feel earned. The expanded roles for Kacey and Lila help broaden the ensemble, yet the season is still finding a stable center after Leighton’s exit.
How Season 3 compares with the first two
Compared with the earlier seasons, the clearest change is ensemble chemistry. The first two built their comedy and emotional friction around four roommates; Season 3 has to redistribute that energy among the remaining leads and newer characters. The jokes still surface, but the overall dynamic is less immediately magnetic.

Season 3 also feels less consistent in pacing and payoff. Its strongest set pieces demonstrate that the show’s comic instincts remain intact, while rushed or unresolved threads make the season feel less cohesive. It is a sophomore-year continuation rather than a reinvention, and it has not yet made the transition feel entirely natural.
Release details and episode count
Season 3 has ten episodes. Warner Bros. Discovery announced that the Max Original would debut on November 21, 2024, with one new episode released weekly. Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement gives the U.S. premiere schedule. Prime Video’s Australian storefront lists ten episodes with dates from November 22, 2024, through January 22, 2025; those are regional listing dates, not the U.S. schedule.

Will there be a Season 4?
Max did not order a fourth season. In March 2025, co-creator Justin Noble said the team was discussing possible new homes for the show, but that report is not confirmation of a revival or a pickup by another service. TheWrap’s report on the cancellation distinguishes those discussions from an actual renewal.
