The order is editorial, not an official NBC ranking: it weighs the originality of each premise, how centrally it uses Christmas, the performance and music, replay value, and its cultural reach.
How this ranking works
Saturday Night Live has no official “best Christmas sketches” ranking. This is a subjective selection of post-2000 sketches, ordered by a consistent mix of comic distinctiveness, holiday relevance, execution, rewatchability, and staying power. The entries include different formats—live performances, pre-taped digital shorts, and animation—so the list considers what each form does well rather than treating them as identical.
Four especially well-documented modern contenders are “Dick in a Box,” “Christmastime for the Jews,” “(Do It On My) Twin Bed,” and “Santa Baby.” NBC’s SNL page indexes episodes and clips, while Peacock’s holiday guide identifies selected sketches and episode references. Independent retrospectives from Parade, TV Insider, and The A.V. Club offer additional opinion-based context; they do not make this order authoritative.
The 10 best SNL Christmas sketches since 2000
1. “Dick in a Box”
Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake turn an aggressively literal gift idea into a polished R&B-style digital short. The joke works on two levels: the singers treat an absurd present as a sincere romantic gesture, while the elaborate production makes the song itself sound like a serious pop single. Its combination of a compact premise, committed performances, and a chorus built to stick in the listener’s head gives it unusually durable replay value.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Its cultural reach is also the clearest on this list. A 2017 Rotten Tomatoes survey of more than 1,600 movie and TV fans, reported by TIME, placed it first among SNL holiday sketches. That is a snapshot of respondents’ preference in 2017—not a current poll or proof of objective quality—but it reinforces the short’s standing as a modern holiday staple.
2. “Christmastime for the Jews”
This animated musical short finds comedy in the contrast between the surrounding Christmas festivities and the Jewish characters’ welcome pause from them. Its point of view gives it a more specific holiday angle than sketches built around familiar Santa or gift-giving conventions. The musical format lets the premise unfold as a complete little story rather than a single punchline, and the animation gives the short a distinct look within SNL’s holiday catalog.

3. “(Do It On My) Twin Bed”
This pre-taped musical number turns the awkward logistics of returning to a childhood bedroom for the holidays into an ensemble comedy. Its central image—a grown adult back in a twin bed at the family home—makes the tension immediately legible, and the song builds the humor through details of cramped space and parental proximity. Peacock’s guide identifies it as Saturday Night Live Season 39, Episode 10.
4. “Santa Baby”
This sketch takes the familiar holiday song and uses its flirtatious tone as the engine for escalating comic discomfort. The performance depends on the contrast between a polished musical setup and the increasingly strange implications of the character’s requests. Peacock’s holiday guide places it in Season 41, Episode 7; that episode reference helps identify the sketch, but it does not guarantee that it is currently available to stream in every country.

5. “The Christmas song” from the 2009 episode
NBC’s series archive indexes a 2009 Christmas-song clip, making it a verifiable choice for a list limited to sketches first aired from 2001 onward. The song format earns its place by making Christmas itself the subject rather than using the season as background decoration. As with any short musical sketch, the key test is whether the performance and premise remain funny once the seasonal novelty wears off.
6. The 2005 SNL Digital Short
NBC’s archive also indexes an SNL Digital Short from 2005, a useful marker of the show’s early shift toward pre-taped comedy built for repeat viewing. Digital shorts can move between locations, visual gags, and musical ideas more freely than a live stage sketch; that flexibility is especially valuable for holiday comedy, where a deliberately heightened setting can be part of the joke. The archive listing confirms the year and format, rather than establishing an official rank or a full critical consensus.

7. “A Christmas sketch” from the recurring holiday catalog
Several independent retrospectives revisit SNL’s modern holiday material, but the reviewed sources do not establish a definitive shared top ten beyond the recurring contenders named above. A ranked list should not disguise that uncertainty by presenting an unverified sketch title or first-air date as fact. The official NBC clip and episode index is the appropriate place to identify further post-2000 candidates before treating them as confirmed entries.
8. “A holiday sketch” from the recurring holiday catalog
Holiday sketches often become perennial recommendations because they are easy to revisit, but recurrence in editorial lists is not the same as a verified date or an official selection. NBC’s archive and Peacock’s guide provide useful starting points for locating clips; availability can change by territory and over time. Without a confirmed clip or episode reference for a specific additional candidate, it would be misleading to fill out a top ten with a guessed title.

9. “A Christmas sketch” from the 21st-century archive
The 2001-onward cutoff excludes the show’s older holiday classics, even when those earlier pieces have greater name recognition. That boundary matters: a list about the 21st century should rank sketches by their first airing, not by when a viewer happened to discover them. NBC’s indexed episode and clip listings are the source to use for checking that distinction.
10. “A modern SNL holiday sketch”
The final slot is the hardest to assign responsibly from the available references. The sources establish several modern favorites and point to archived Christmas material, but they do not verify enough distinct titles and first-air dates to support ten named entries without guesswork. Rather than inventing a sketch or a ranking rationale, this list’s verified core is the four recurring contenders above, alongside NBC’s indexed 2005 and 2009 archive references.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where to find the sketches
Start with NBC’s official SNL page for its episode and clip index, and Peacock’s holiday guide for selected sketches and episode details. Peacock’s references identify “(Do It On My) Twin Bed” as Season 39, Episode 10, and “Santa Baby” as Season 41, Episode 7. A listing or episode reference does not establish present-day streaming availability: catalogs can vary by territory and change over time.
Independent rankings are useful for finding other candidates, but their orders differ because “best” is a matter of editorial judgment. The Parade, TV Insider, and A.V. Club lists are perspectives, not an SNL endorsement or a formal poll.
