The animated series adapts Critical Role’s second tabletop campaign, shares the world of Exandria with The Legend of Vox Machina, and follows a different group in Wildemount. The preview image did not show Yasha, the party’s seventh member.
What is The Mighty Nein?
The Mighty Nein is an animated companion series in the broader Critical Role franchise. It adapts the second of Critical Role’s tabletop campaigns, while The Legend of Vox Machina adapts the first. Both stories take place in Exandria, but the new series centers on another party and a different part of the world. Critical Role’s animation page and Amazon’s series guide describe the show and its premise.
The spoiler-light setup brings together fugitives and outcasts who become entangled with the Beacon, a dangerous arcane relic. Amazon’s description says the relic threatens reality and the group must unite to save their world. The story unfolds in Wildemount, a region that includes the Dwendalian Empire, the Kryn Dynasty, and the Menagerie Coast.

The report specifically noted that Yasha Nydoorin, voiced by Ashley Johnson, was not shown in the image. That is an image-preview detail, not an indication that Yasha is missing from the series. The article was an Entertainment Weekly exclusive, written by Nick Romano and syndicated in an AOL-hosted version.
How is it connected to The Legend of Vox Machina?
The two series share Exandria and their core performers, but they adapt separate campaigns and follow different protagonists. Amazon’s guide places The Mighty Nein 20 years after The Legend of Vox Machina. In the first-look interview, showrunner Tasha Huo described the gap more cautiously as “I think” 20 years and teased “a lot of fun intersections.” The relationship is a shared-world one, not a direct continuation of Vox Machina’s party.

The core performers return in new roles: Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham. The full cast and guest performers are listed in Amazon’s series guide.
What does the preview suggest about the party’s dynamic?
The first-look story presents the group as people who do not immediately become a team. Travis Willingham described a gradual convergence: the characters start with their own goals and resist working together for a while. Huo discussed secrets and trauma as part of the story, while Sam Riegel spoke about preserving campaign jokes and inside references. These are interview descriptions of the adaptation’s approach, rather than a promise that every tabletop moment appears onscreen.

A later preview focused on a different part of the production: Rotten Tomatoes published an exclusive look at the opening title sequence, updated November 2, 2025. Willingham told the outlet the team wanted a new sound for the series, describing its intended direction as an “electronic-meets-fantasy vibe.” That title-sequence preview is separate from the July 2025 first look at the characters.
Where can you watch The Mighty Nein?
As of October 4, 2026, Critical Role’s animation page says all Season 1 episodes are available on Prime Video, and Amazon lists eight episodes streaming exclusively there. Streaming catalogs and access can change and may vary by country; check the platform’s listing in your region for current availability.

Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins is a separate six-volume graphic-novel line about individual characters’ backstories. The Jester Lavorre volume follows her early years and her path toward joining the group.
