The Family Reunion, presented by chef Kwame Onwuachi, will not take place in 2026. Salamander Collection canceled the planned August 20–23 gathering and says it will not reschedule the event this year. Ticket holders are due full refunds; overnight-package guests should look for separate communication from their property. Salamander Collection’s official event page has the current notice and refund guidance.
Is The Family Reunion happening in 2026?
No. Salamander Collection says the 2026 Family Reunion was canceled and will not be rescheduled this year. The announced dates, August 20–23, were plans for the now-canceled edition, not dates for an event that is still going ahead. The organizer attributed the decision to summer scheduling dynamics affecting partner participation; proceeding would have required compromises inconsistent with the event’s standards and values. The official notice does not confirm a future edition, date, venue, or ticket sale.
What should ticket and overnight-package holders do?
All-Access and Evening-Only tickets
Salamander’s FAQ says holders of All-Access and Evening-Only tickets will receive automatic full refunds. The timing can vary by financial institution, so the notice does not promise a specific posting date.
Overnight packages
Guests who booked an overnight package should watch for separate communication from the relevant property. Salamander says these guests are eligible for a full refund if they wish. The organizer also says properties will share information about special offers; that is not a guarantee of a particular replacement package or discount. See the official event FAQ for the applicable instructions.

What was The Family Reunion?
The Family Reunion is a multi-day culinary and hospitality gathering presented by chef and author Kwame Onwuachi in collaboration with Salamander Collection and Food & Wine. Its stated mission is to nurture and develop racial and ethnic diversity in the next generation of hospitality professionals. Past editions have featured chef demonstrations, panels, family meals, and social or recreational activities, according to Salamander Collection.
Salamander describes the gathering as five years of celebrating Black and Brown contributions to food, culture, and hospitality. In its account of the 2025 edition at Salamander Middleburg, Toast reported more than 1,000 attendees and described panels, cooking demonstrations, recreational activities, and daily family meals. That attendance figure applies to Toast’s account of the 2025 event, not to every edition. Toast’s 2025 account also said its expanded sponsorship included a $30,000 scholarship for a Culinary Institute of America student, with mentorship from Onwuachi.

What had been announced for the canceled edition?
An April 2026 preview described a sixth-year gathering at Salamander Middleburg in Virginia, themed “Folklore: A History of Storytelling,” with chef-led meals, workshops, panels, and other culinary programming. It named the Culinary Institute of America as charitable partner. These were advance-plan details; the later cancellation notice supersedes them. Food & Wine’s preview also quoted Onwuachi: “Food is one of the most powerful storytelling tools we have.”
The 2026 preview named Salamander Collection, Food & Wine, OpenTable, Toast, Inspire, Select Events, Coca-Cola, AmaWaterways, Visit Loudoun, and La Colombe as partners. Partner listings alone do not establish referral commissions or affiliate programs.

How did earlier editions support hospitality education?
Salamander’s legacy page says that in 2025, two percent of ticket sales and 50% of the silent auction supported the Onwuachi ’13 scholarship fund at the Culinary Institute of America. This is a historical description of 2025 proceeds, not a statement about donations from the canceled 2026 event. Salamander’s legacy page provides that account.

Food & Wine’s April 2026 preview said attendees were expected to receive a copy of Onwuachi’s cookbook All Hours: Crazy Good Food for Whatever, Whenever ahead of its expected September 2026 publication. Because the gathering was canceled, that anticipated attendee benefit should not be treated as available. The book may still interest readers drawn to Onwuachi’s cooking and food storytelling, but the event announcement does not establish its current publication or retail status. Food & Wine’s preview is the source for the original plan.
