Spoiler note: This ranking discusses events from the manga’s Second Selection and later Neo Egoist League material, including characters introduced ahead of the anime’s announced Season 3. It is not a canon top ten: the order is an editorial judgment based on match stakes, contrast in playing style or ego, character change, and how long the tension lasts.

Blue Lock gathers 300 high-school forwards in a project to develop Japan’s best striker. Its rivalries are not all the same: some are direct scoring contests, while others begin as partnerships or family conflicts. The strongest are the ones that make a player rethink what he wants and how he can win.

How these rivalries are ranked

The ranking weighs four things: consequential competition, contrast between the players, how they affect one another’s growth, and durability across the story. A strained partnership can rank alongside a match-up, but it is identified as a different kind of rivalry. Official franchise sources establish character profiles and some match context; they do not publish a definitive top-ten list or order.

1. Isagi Yoichi vs Rin Itoshi

Rin is the clearest benchmark for Isagi: a complete, elite striker whose presence forces Isagi to adapt rather than rely on a single strength. The official anime profile calls Rin “Currently the top player in BLUE LOCK, Rin boasts exceptional talent in all abilities necessary for a soccer player, not to mention his scoring ability.” The official Weekly Shonen Magazine profile says Isagi targets Rin and that their battles begin to heat Rin’s previously cool demeanor.

That makes the rivalry more than a contest between the project’s leading players. Rin’s superiority gives Isagi something concrete to chase, while Isagi’s capacity to change unsettles a player accustomed to control. Their competition is the strongest overall because it joins high stakes, contrasting approaches, and mutual impact without depending on one isolated match.

2. Isagi Yoichi vs Shoei Barou

Barou’s self-image as a king collides with Isagi’s willingness to read the field and use other players’ movements. The Second Selection makes that contrast consequential: after Bachira is taken by Rin’s group, Isagi and Nagi face Barou’s team in a match with elimination stakes. Kodansha’s Omnibus Volume 3 sets up the broader rival-battle context, and its Volume 7 description places Isagi and Nagi against Barou.

Barou is not simply an obstacle Isagi must outscore. His refusal to subordinate his ego pushes Isagi to confront the limits of treating other players as pieces to be read and used. Their rivalry is a direct sporting clash, but its lasting value comes from the different ideas of what it means to dominate a match.

3. Isagi Yoichi vs Seishiro Nagi

Isagi and Nagi move between opponent, teammate, and influence. Nagi is a gifted forward with little initial interest in soccer; the official anime profile describes him as “a genius forward who boasts an extraordinary soccer sense despite being extremely lazy and having no interest in the sport.” Losing to Isagi, then playing alongside him, helps Nagi develop a passion for the game.

Their tension is less a permanent one-on-one duel than a question of what each awakens in the other. Isagi gives Nagi a reason to care and a challenge he cannot dismiss; Nagi’s instinctive talent gives Isagi another player whose capabilities he must learn to incorporate or overcome. That shifting relationship makes this one of the series’ most productive rivalries.

Rank #2

4. Nagi Seishiro vs Reo Mikage

Nagi and Reo’s rivalry grows out of a partnership. Reo invited Nagi into soccer, and the two initially pursued their ambition together. As Nagi’s growth leads them in different directions, the central tension changes: can each become a player in his own right, or will their identities remain tied to what they achieved as a pair?

Official character profiles describe their separation and the bond that came before it. The official Nagi and Reo character material supports the partnership’s foundation, while the anime profiles place Nagi’s development in the context of his growing interest in soccer. This is not a recurring opponent-versus-opponent scoring duel; it is a relationship under competitive pressure, with independence and loyalty pulling in different directions.

5. Rin Itoshi vs Sae Itoshi

Rin’s rivalry with his older brother Sae is personal before it is tactical. The official Weekly Shonen Magazine profile identifies defeating Sae as Rin’s ultimate goal and connects that ambition to resentment. That family history gives Rin’s drive a different source from the competition for status inside Blue Lock.

Their dynamic matters because it helps explain what Rin is trying to prove and to whom. It is foundational rather than a constant match-up, so it ranks below rivalries built around repeated direct competition. But few relationships make the emotional cost of winning as explicit.

6. Isagi Yoichi vs Meguru Bachira

Isagi and Bachira begin with mutual interest and a natural connection on the field. Bachira’s dribbling set him apart before he met a player who could keep up; official character profiles describe Isagi’s play as helping Bachira rediscover his own ego. Their relationship gains competitive pressure when the Second Selection forces players to make team choices.

This is a rivalry with an unusually strong foundation in partnership. Bachira gives Isagi a creative, unpredictable presence to respond to, while Isagi helps Bachira recognize that his play can come from his own desire rather than the imagined companion he once relied on. Their tension is real, but it does not erase the trust that made their early connection meaningful.

7. Isagi Yoichi vs Michael Kaiser

Kaiser is a later manga-era rival whose presence shifts the contest into an international-club setting. The official anime announcement identifies him as Bastard München U-20’s ace forward and a New Generation World XI member, and introduces him alongside Isagi ahead of Season 3. Those details establish the scale of the challenge, while the full rivalry belongs to manga developments beyond the earlier Second Selection material.

This entry is included for the collision between Isagi’s continued growth and an established elite attacker operating in the same club environment. The official announcement establishes Kaiser’s status, not a complete account of their rivalry; readers seeking the full arc should treat this as a manga-spoiler entry rather than an anime-only summary. See the official Season 3 announcement for the confirmed character and series context.

8. Isagi Yoichi vs the Blue Lock system

Isagi’s broader contest is with the project’s demand that one striker emerge above everyone else. The official anime character profiles describe a program built around 300 high-school forwards and the goal of developing Japan’s best striker. That premise turns even teammates into potential competitors: cooperation may create a chance, but individual ambition decides who claims it.

This is not a personal feud with one opponent, so it ranks below the named pairings. It earns a place because it explains why Isagi’s rivalries keep changing. He is not only trying to beat a player; he is trying to become the striker the project is designed to produce.

9. Isagi Yoichi vs the U-20 challenge

The U-20 contest broadens Blue Lock’s stakes beyond its internal selection. Rather than a rivalry with one player, it pits the project’s strikers against an established national-team structure. It qualifies as a collective sporting rivalry because it tests whether Blue Lock’s competitive premise can succeed against a team representing the existing path for Japanese soccer.

This ranking treats the U-20 side as a group opponent, not as a claim that every member has an equally developed personal rivalry with Isagi. Its importance comes from the scale of the challenge and the way it makes Blue Lock’s internal competition answer to an external standard.

10. Isagi Yoichi vs the next generation of elite forwards

Blue Lock’s later international-club setting places Isagi among elite forwards whose experience and status challenge his claim to a top role. Kaiser is the clearest named example in the official material reviewed, but this final entry is a broader competitive category rather than a separate canon pairing. It captures the series’ widening question: can Isagi’s adaptive growth keep pace when the standard is no longer only his fellow Blue Lock players?

Because this category is less specific than the first seven entries, it ranks last. It reflects the direction of the competition rather than a single fully established rivalry with its own complete matchup history.

Who is Isagi’s biggest rival?

Rin is Isagi’s strongest overall rival in this ranking. Their dynamic has a clear benchmark relationship, direct competitive stakes, and evidence of affecting both players. Kaiser is a major later manga-era challenger, but the official Season 3 announcement establishes his credentials rather than supplying a complete account of the rivalry. Calling either pairing the series’ official “best” would overstate what the sources establish.
