Spoilers ahead. “The Truck Stops Here,” the 7th-season finale of The Conners, aired April 23, 2025. It closed the family’s story not with a financial windfall or a perfectly tied-up future, but with a $700 settlement check, a visit to Roseanne’s grave, and a final goodnight from Dan.
What happens in “The Truck Stops Here”
Dan gives a deposition in the family’s case against the opioid company linked to Roseanne’s fatal overdose. The case does not bring the major victory the family hoped for: the settlement check is just $700. TheWrap’s account says Roseanne knew the drugs were dangerous but continued taking them, a fact that affected the case’s outcome.
The family opens the envelope together at Roseanne’s grave. The small check lands as rueful family humor rather than a life-changing payout, and they decide to celebrate by going out to dinner. The legal result is modest, but the graveside gathering gives the characters a chance to tell one another where their lives stand.
Where the characters end up
- Becky says she is still sober and has a good job.
- Jackie announces she passed the required tests and is back on the police force.
- Darlene tells Roseanne she is doing what she believes her mother would have done for the family. She and Ben have repaired their relationship.
- Mark uses his hacking skills to get a job in New York instead of going to college.
- Dan and Louise confront Louise’s insecurity about her place in Dan’s life after he talks about Roseanne in his deposition.
These are forward steps, not guarantees that every problem is solved. The finale gives each character a direction to pursue while leaving their lives in motion.

Why the family receives only $700
The check is the finale’s sharpest rejection of a conventional sitcom payoff. The family’s pursuit of justice does not suddenly make them rich. Executive producer Bruce Rasmussen described Becky’s good-job ending as a “realistic triumph,” while Dave Caplan said the aim was to bring the storylines to natural conclusions without suggesting that the characters’ lives had stopped.
The case also connects the family’s immediate story to Roseanne’s lasting place in it: the visit to her grave makes the legal outcome part of a family farewell. TV Insider reported that the producers connected the pursuit of justice to a Supreme Court ruling affecting opioid manufacturers’ immunity. The episode uses that as story context; it is not a comprehensive account of the law.

How the finale says goodbye
After the graveside gathering, the family returns to the Conner home for food and parting goodbyes. The final scene brings everyone back to the living room, with footage from the original Roseanne recalling the characters’ long history. The cast’s emotion becomes visible in the scene; Caplan said that growing emotion surprised the producers, and Bruce Helford said they chose to keep it.
Dan then says goodnight directly to the camera. Helford described the moment this way: “Dan saying goodbye to the audience, that was all John and it was wonderful.” The direct address makes the farewell feel less like a plot twist than a personal sendoff from Dan—and from John Goodman—to viewers.
