That ’90s Show Part 3 is a more confident, funnier installment, with an ensemble that feels increasingly at ease in Point Place. The improvement is real but modest: the stories remain low-stakes and nostalgia-heavy, and the ending leaves Leia’s future unresolved. Based on a small set of published reviews and reporting—not a firsthand viewing—it is a worthwhile next chapter for viewers who enjoy the cast and the show’s easygoing sitcom rhythm.
What Part 3 is about
Set in summer 1996, the third batch picks up after Jay and Bunch’s car crashes into Red and Kitty’s kitchen. Leia has reunited with Jay after nine months apart, but the summer’s earlier near-kiss with Nate has complicated their relationships. More than the kitchen damage, the central question is whether Leia can stay in Point Place with the friends who have become her home. Netflix’s Tudum coverage frames the new stories around that aftermath and Leia’s hopes.
The premise gives the installment a clear emotional thread, but it does not turn the show into a high-stakes drama. Caitlin Wyneken’s Tell-Tale TV review notes that the kitchen-hole incident is resolved quickly, leaving the series to focus on relationships and late-summer growing pains. The result is a sitcom that prefers brief complications and familiar hangout rhythms to lasting fallout.
Is Part 3 better?
The reviews consulted generally describe an improvement in comic timing and ensemble ease. Preston Barta of Fresh Fiction highlights more genuine laughs and heart, while Arezou Amin of Collider calls it the show’s most solid installment so far; Rotten Tomatoes reproduced both reactions alongside Wyneken’s review. Daniel Mazz’s Music City Drive-in review also praises the chemistry and returning comedic rhythms, and says laughs come more often.

That positive read needs context: this is a small critical sample, not a broad or settled consensus. When accessed, Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 3 page showed three critic reviews and a 70% Tomatometer. Both the count and score can change, and three reviews are too few to treat the percentage as a definitive measure of quality.
Where the improvement shows
- Comedy: Reviewers report more frequent laughs and a stronger balance of jokes and warmth.
- Ensemble: The young cast appears more comfortable together, while familiar characters and comedic rhythms help the group feel settled.
- Story ambition: The gains are mostly in execution, not consequence. Wyneken’s main reservation is that little of lasting significance happens and nostalgia does much of the work.
Mazz’s praise comes with a related qualification: he wants more appearances from the original cast and finds the cliffhanger endings frustrating. Part 3 may feel more assured without making the newer characters’ stories wholly independent of returning-character appeal or ’90s callbacks.

How much does nostalgia matter?
Nostalgia is part of the show’s design, not just a layer of references. In Netflix Tudum’s feature, showrunner Gregg Mettler says the characters’ need to visit one another and hang out in person is what makes the setting feel like the ’90s. That gives the series a useful contrast with contemporary teen life, but the reviews suggest the period atmosphere can also carry stories that do not build toward especially consequential outcomes.
For viewers who want a warm, familiar sitcom, that trade-off may be welcome. Those looking for sharper plot turns, substantial character reversals, or a fresh take on the original show’s world may find the installment’s comfort-first approach limiting.

Does Part 3 end on a cliffhanger?
Spoilers: Yes. In the penultimate episode, Donna tells Leia that Eric has received his dream job in California. Donna suggests Leia could remain in Point Place during the school year while Donna travels among Chicago, Point Place, and the West Coast. Leia eagerly accepts the possibility, but the arrangement is not settled on screen, leaving her school-year future open.
In an interview with TheWrap, Laura Prepon said the open-ended ending was intentional because the creators did not know whether Netflix would order more episodes. The conclusion therefore works both as a forward-looking hook and as an unresolved stopping point; it does not deliver a firm answer about where Leia will live next.

How many episodes are in Part 3?
The available listings conflict. Netflix Tudum describes Part 3 as ten new episodes, while Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 3 episode guide lists eight, and TheWrap’s interview with Prepon also refers to her directing all eight episodes. Since those sources do not align, “Part 3” or “the third batch” is the clearest description without implying a settled episode count.
Where to watch
Netflix Tudum identifies Netflix as the streaming home for Part 3. Catalog availability can vary by country, so check the Netflix service in your region for current access.
