In a February 17, 2026 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the runner-up said he might “in some ways never get over it”—though winning Survivor 50 would help.
What Charlie Davis said about the loss
Asked how much the loss and Maria Shrime Gonzalez’s vote still stung, Davis told Entertainment Weekly: “It definitely stings. I’ve come to terms with it in a lot of ways. So it definitely still stings, the loss stings. I’ll probably in some ways never get over it, although winning Survivor 50 sure would help.”
His answer holds two thoughts together: he has made peace with parts of the experience, but the result remains painful. The phrase “in some ways” matters; Davis did not say that he has made no progress or that he expects the loss to define him forever.
How close was the Survivor 46 vote?
Davis lost to Kenzie Petty by a 5–3 jury vote. Gonzalez’s vote for Petty was the deciding vote. The interview also describes a counterfactual: had Gonzalez voted for Davis, the tally would have been 4–4, and Ben Katzman would have broken the tie for Davis. That hypothetical is not the actual result.

Davis’s answer confirms that the vote remains part of what stings, but the interview does not establish why Gonzalez voted as she did. It supports the outcome and Davis’s reaction, not a definitive account of her motivation.
What Davis says he learned from losing
Davis described the loss as an experience he learned from, saying it cleared his head and kicked him into gear for his return. He also said he was willing to take more risks. “To know how to win, it helps to know how to lose, and I know how to lose painfully,” he said.

What Davis was doing after Survivor 46

What the interview does—and does not—say about Survivor 50
Davis’s comment that winning Survivor 50 would help was a remark about how he might feel about the earlier loss. The interview appeared before the season’s outcome, so it does not establish how he felt later or what happened in the competition.
