What Tavaris Williams said—and what the puzzle answer was
Williams was playing a “Phrase” toss-up when he buzzed in with “Right in the butt.” The correct solution was “This is the best,” according to TVLine’s account of the May 23, 2024, episode.
Sajak said no. A fellow contestant reacted, “What?!” and the audience laughed. When Sajak later introduced Williams, he said, “Well, Tavaris, you’ve already made an impression on us.” Williams apologized and explained that he had been excited; Sajak joked that they would find a tasteful way to handle the moment.
Why Williams gave the surprising guess
Williams later told Fox News Digital that he had buzzed in before thinking through the answer: “I tried to just beat my contestants by buzzing in first and letting my brain catch up.” In other words, he said the quick guess came from trying to get in first, not from planning an on-air stunt. Fox News Digital’s May 31, 2024, interview reports his explanation.

Williams also said Sajak reassured him during the break. TheWrap reported Williams’s description: “Pat was the best, he made me feel so great about that.” TheWrap’s May 30, 2024, report recounts that part of his account.
Not the same as the 2023 “Playing with balls” guess
A different Wheel of Fortune moment is sometimes easy to confuse with Williams’s. On a March 2023 WWE-week episode, contestant Tracina Jones guessed “Playing with balls?” for a puzzle whose correct answer was “Playing with dolls.” That was a separate contestant, episode, and puzzle—not Williams’s May 2024 appearance. TV Insider’s March 29, 2023, report covers Jones’s guess.
