Anika Dhar was voted out in Survivor 47 episode 5 after Gata lost immunity—and she did not see the vote coming. Expecting Andy Rueda to go home, Anika instead became the target of an alliance between Andy, Sam Phalen and Sierra Wright. Her stunned, tearful exit became the episode’s defining moment.
Why was Anika voted out?
Dalton Ross’s October 17, 2024 recap reports that Gata lost the immunity challenge and went to Tribal Council. Anika believed the votes would send Andy home. But Andy was working with Sam and Sierra, and the three aligned against Anika and Rachel LaMont. Anika received three votes and was eliminated.
Sam had obtained a Beware Advantage idol that Andy had encountered earlier, but Sam chose not to play it. Ross questions that decision in his recap; the account establishes the choice, but does not establish a definitive private explanation for it.
How did Anika react to the blindside?
As described in Ross’s recap, Anika asked Rachel whether she knew about the plan, then said, “You’re kidding me, you guys.” She cried as she left. When Sam and Andy waved goodbye, she answered, “Nah.”

Ross characterized the exit as unusually raw and emphasized how emotional it felt to watch. That is his response to the scene, rather than an objective measure of how Anika’s reaction compares with every other Survivor exit.
What Andy Rueda said after the episode
In an interview published October 23, 2024, Andy said Anika had little respect for him and wanted him voted out that night. He described her visible devastation as “one of the most satisfying moments of my life.” That is Andy’s personal reaction, not a neutral description of Anika’s experience.

Andy also said he considered asking Anika about the four votes after she was eliminated, but decided against it because he thought the question might make Sam and Sierra suspicious. He later explained his view of the game’s voting mechanic this way: “To me, your voting parchment is your strongest advantage in the game, and losing it is unacceptable.”

The same interview revisited Andy’s earlier on-island breakdown. He called that day “in many ways the worst day of my life” and said he anticipated millions of viewers seeing it as their first impression of him. He also said the season helped him develop self-assurance and resilience. That retrospective adds context to Andy’s later relief at surviving Tribal Council, while remaining his own account of the experience.
