Yes, according to the latest public reporting available through August 14, 2026: a Labyrinth sequel remains in development. The project has changed iterations, however. Brian Henson’s 2024 remark that the company was “very excited” did not confirm that an earlier version would proceed, while later reporting names Robert Eggers and Sjón on a current TriStar iteration. No cast, filming start, plot synopsis, or release date is confirmed in that report.
What Brian Henson actually confirmed in 2024
In a February 2024 interview, Brian Henson, then described as chairman of the Jim Henson Company, was asked about a Labyrinth sequel. He replied: “Well, that’s a question you have to ask my sister. My sister Lisa, who’s CEO of the Jim Henson Company. That is a project that we are very excited about, but we can’t talk about it.” GeekTyrant, February 9, 2024
That answer confirmed enthusiasm for a sequel project and a refusal to share details. It was not a production announcement, nor did it establish that the Scott Derrickson version discussed at the time would move forward unchanged. Contemporary reporting said that version might change. The contemporaneous report on Derrickson’s iteration
How the reported versions differ
| Iteration | What reporting says | What that establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Scott Derrickson version, discussed around the 2024 interview | Contemporaneous coverage noted that the version might change. Report | It was an earlier iteration; Henson’s broad expression of excitement did not confirm it would proceed as announced. |
| TriStar iteration reported in 2026 | A September 2026 report names Robert Eggers as writer-director and Sjón as co-writer. Report | The latest located public reporting describes this iteration as in development, based on information reviewed through August 14, 2026. |
These are distinct snapshots of a project’s development, not evidence that the earlier and later creative teams are working on the same unchanged version.

What “in development” means here—and what it doesn’t
The September 2026 report says the sequel was in development in the public record it reviewed through August 14, 2026. That is the latest located status account, not a direct studio announcement or independent confirmation of production activity. An official Sony, TriStar, or Jim Henson Company update after that review window is not established here.
Development does not mean cameras are rolling. The report gives no confirmed cast, official plot synopsis, production start, or release date. It also does not establish that Jennifer Connelly will return as Sarah or that Jareth will appear. A circulating logline should not be treated as confirmed story information.
Eggers’ prior films are not evidence of the sequel’s eventual tone, use of practical effects or puppetry, or musical format; those details have not been confirmed in the cited status report.

Until the companies involved issue an update, distinguish an announced attachment or development status reported by trade and entertainment outlets from concrete production news. A confirmed cast list, start of principal photography, official synopsis, or dated release announcement would be a separate milestone; none is established by the reporting summarized above.
The original 1986 film is available in physical-media formats listed by the 2026 report, including 4K UHD and Blu-ray. Those releases are for the original film, not sequel merchandise. Formats referenced in the report
