A commitment to Stranger Things, alongside work on Resident Alien and the film Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, brought her back into a busy stretch. Her words describe the period she discussed in that interview—not a verified tally of her work or her schedule in 2026.
Why did Linda Hamilton consider retiring?
Hamilton recalled that around 2023 a bad hip left her limping and unsure she could reliably be fit for work every day. “I just said, ‘I can’t do my best work or be sure that I’m gonna be fit for work every day. I gotta stop,’” she told Yahoo News Malaysia in a 2025 interview, which republished Nick Romano’s Entertainment Weekly conversation. The interview was edited and condensed for length and clarity.
That was a serious consideration, not an announcement that she had retired. Hamilton later described being drawn back to work after an opportunity from Stranger Things.
How did Stranger Things bring her back?
Hamilton said the show contacted her agent about a June-to-June availability window roughly three months after she had been thinking about retirement. Her agent accepted enthusiastically. The role was Dr. Kay in Stranger Things 5, the fifth and final season, as confirmed by Netflix’s official cast guide.

Hamilton said the year of filming required her to prepare for physical demands. She went to the gym three times a week to stay mobile and ready, and said she got through the work without Dr. Kay limping. That is her account of managing the role, not independent medical reporting.
What else was she working on?
Hamilton said she filmed Resident Alien during the same period as Stranger Things. She also went to Toronto for six weeks to film Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, a dark comedy she described as one of her biggest parts in years. She characterized back-to-back work as unusual for her, and said she was tired and had little professional support while still loving the work.

What did “working more than ever” mean?
It was Hamilton’s own description of the busy period she was discussing, not a measured comparison of her annual roles or a current employment count. In the interview she said, “I haven’t worked this much since I started to talk about retirement.” She also said, “I actually love acting more than I ever have.”
Hamilton described a practical arrangement that helped her keep working: “I’ve got children that live nearby and a friend that comes in and stays with the dogs, and I just go do what I love.” The remark helps explain how she approached that stretch of work, but does not establish what projects she has in progress now.

Is Linda Hamilton retiring now?
The interview does not announce a retirement. It recounts her earlier doubts and her return to a demanding period of acting. Netflix’s cast guide confirms her role in the final season of Stranger Things; the guide’s release dates refer to the show’s original 2025 rollout. Neither source establishes Hamilton’s present-day work schedule.
