The later report describes Lloyd as doing better, but does not independently confirm his diagnosis or current care.
How is Jake Lloyd doing now?
On September 8, 2026, CinemaBlend reported that Sandell had posted on Instagram that Lloyd was “doing better than I’ve ever seen him,” describing him as “engaging, curious, and funny.” The report also mentioned a new treatment plan.
This is a secondary account of Sandell’s social-media update, not a new direct interview with Lloyd or a clinical record. It does not establish a change in diagnosis, a cure, or the specifics of Lloyd’s current treatment.
What did Jake Lloyd say about schizophrenia and treatment?
In a January 1, 2025 interview with journalist Clayton Sandell, Lloyd said he felt “pretty good” and could accept continued treatment, therapy, and medication: “I can now accept taking on continued treatment, and therapy, and my meds. Everyone’s been very supportive.” Sandell’s interview reported that Lloyd had recently completed an 18-month stay at an inpatient mental-health facility in Southern California and was continuing care at a rehabilitation center. Those details describe his situation as reported in January 2025; they do not confirm where or how he is receiving care now.

The interview reported that Lloyd has a schizophrenia diagnosis. His mother, Lisa Lloyd, described anosognosia as an obstacle that had made it difficult for him to acknowledge the diagnosis and accept medication. That is her account of his experience, not a clinical assessment included in the interview.
Did Star Wars cause Jake Lloyd’s mental-health struggles?
Lisa Lloyd rejected the claim that negative reactions to Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace caused her son’s mental-health decline, according to Sandell’s interview. She also cited a family history of schizophrenia on Lloyd’s father’s side. These are family statements, not a definitive medical explanation of the cause of his condition.

Lloyd, who played young Anakin Skywalker in the 1999 film, said he has fond memories of the experience. He also described fan interactions as helpful to him personally, telling Sandell: “The experience I’ve had with the fans is immediately therapeutic. Right now, it’s still therapeutic. It’s helpful for people and healthy. It isn’t something I’d shy away from.” That is Lloyd’s own account of those encounters, not a general claim that fan interaction is a substitute for treatment.
