Naomi Pomeroy’s body was recovered from Oregon’s Willamette River on July 17, 2024, four days after she drowned while recreating on the river. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said canoeists spotted her near Hyak Park, about half a mile upstream of the park between Corvallis and Albany. Investigators attributed the July 13 drowning to an entanglement involving an exposed snag and the leash attaching Pomeroy to a paddleboard.
Where was Naomi Pomeroy found?
Canoeists reported seeing a body in the Willamette River at about 10 a.m. on July 17. Marine deputies located a deceased woman in a shallow bedrock area near the middle of the river, in approximately one to two feet of water, about half a mile upstream of Hyak Park. What happened in the fatal river accident?
The recovery site was not the accident site. The sheriff’s office said Pomeroy drowned at about 8:25 p.m. on July 13 near river mile 132 in Corvallis, about 100 yards upstream from the Mary’s River. Its investigation found that three adults recreating on tubes and a paddleboard became entangled on an exposed snag. The agency said the paddleboard was attached to Pomeroy and that its leash prevented her from freeing herself after she was pulled underwater. Benton County Sheriff’s Office, July 16, 2024.
