Entertainment Weekly’s March 31, 2025, exclusive first look revealed that The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 would begin after a substantial time jump, with Belly in college and still dating Jeremiah while Conrad returned to the group. The beach photo that seemed to put Conrad between the couple was a flashback, creator Jenny Han clarified. Season 3 has since aired; Amazon has also announced a feature film directed by Han as the story’s concluding chapter.
What the March 2025 first look revealed
Before Season 3 premiered, Entertainment Weekly’s Sydney Bucksbaum reported that the 11-episode season would adapt Jenny Han’s third novel, We’ll Always Have Summer. The story picks up after a significant time jump: Belly is in college and remains with Jeremiah, whom she chose over Conrad at the end of Season 2. Conrad, who had been away from the group for a while, returns.
Han and Lola Tung, who plays Belly, discussed the preview with Entertainment Weekly on March 31, 2025. Tung described Belly and Jeremiah as best friends at their core and said it was exciting to see how their relationship blossoms in the new season. That was Tung’s perspective on the characters, rather than a claim that the relationship would be uncomplicated.
Was the beach photo from the present?
No. One of the preview images showed Belly, Jeremiah and Conrad together on the beach, prompting the question of what Conrad’s presence meant for the couple. Han said the image was a flashback, not a snapshot of the three together in the present-day story. The preview also showed Conrad wearing a white coat as he continued on the path toward becoming a doctor.

What Jenny Han said about surprises and the books
Han cautioned readers of the novels against assuming that the adaptation would follow every expected turn. “There are going to be surprises. There are the things that they know and then there are things they think they know, and then there’s going to be, hopefully, things that surprise them,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
She also described the overall adaptation plan as “Three books, three seasons. It feels right to me.” Season 3 was announced as the trilogy’s 11-episode final season, with Han and Sarah Kucserka as showrunners. The books remain the source material, but Han’s comments make clear that familiarity with the novels was not a guarantee of knowing every television adaptation choice.

Season 3 has aired, and the story is set to continue
The first look was a pre-release preview, not a current status update. Prime Video’s catalog lists all 11 Season 3 episodes, with release dates and episode synopses. Its final-episode synopsis mentions Paris and Belly’s 22nd birthday; those details reveal later-season chronology and may spoil the ending’s setup.
Amazon subsequently announced a feature film directed by Han as the concluding chapter of the story. The announcement did not disclose the film’s plot specifics or complete cast, so details beyond its role as the planned conclusion remain unconfirmed. Season 3 was the last season of the series, but not the franchise’s final screen project.
