Hunter Schafer said infidelity was part of why her relationship with Dominic Fike ended. In an August 7, 2024, Call Her Daddy interview, she described the breakup as mutually agreed upon and painful, saying they still loved each other and both had personal work to do. Her account is her own; the details of their private relationship remain limited to what she chose to share.
What did Hunter Schafer say about the breakup?
“Part of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time,” Schafer said on Call Her Daddy. She described the split as mutually agreed upon: they both recognized the relationship was not working. She also called it painful because they loved each other, and said each had personal work to do. Those parts of her account belong together; she did not describe infidelity as the only factor in the breakup. The interview appeared on Call Her Daddy.
Schafer called it “one of the cleaner breakups I’ve had,” while making clear that the experience affected her. Her remarks offer her perspective on the relationship, not an independently established account of what happened between the two.
How did the experience affect Schafer?
Schafer said the experience “fundamentally changed me as a person.” She described initially questioning herself and connected that reaction to her experience as a trans woman. Over time, she said, she came to understand that the infidelity reflected the other person and what they were dealing with, rather than her worth. She put that realization this way: “And it was this whole process of realizing that cheating has nothing to do with you at all.” Those are Schafer’s reflections on her own experience, not a universal explanation for infidelity.

She described the relationship as significant in her life as a trans woman: it was her first monogamous relationship and her first relationship with a cisgender man. She also said Fike was comfortable being publicly seen as her boyfriend. That context is specific to Schafer and should not be treated as a template for other trans people or relationships.
What details did she keep private?
Schafer said she suspected infidelity and looked through Fike’s phone, adding that she was “not proud” of doing so. She declined to share further details, saying she had “no interest” in letting the public into everything because what happened was between them and she wanted to protect it. Her comments do not establish additional specifics, and speculation about people or circumstances would go beyond what she chose to disclose.

When did Schafer and Fike split?
The public timeline has several milestones, but it does not establish one definitive date for every private development in the relationship.
- Season two of Euphoria: Schafer and Fike met while filming the series.
- January–March 2022: Dating rumors were reported in January; they posted publicly together on Instagram in February and appeared together at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party in March.
- July 2023: Fike said he was single in an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe. Discussing codependency and being alone, he said, “I’m just done being in relationships right now.” The Independent reported on the interview.
- August 7, 2024: Schafer discussed the breakup and said infidelity had contributed to it on Call Her Daddy.
Fike’s July 2023 remarks and Schafer’s 2024 account are different public milestones. A GQ profile described the pair reuniting after Schafer returned from Germany and then ending things again in April 2024, so the public announcement does not necessarily capture every private development. The reviewed reports do not establish that Fike publicly responded to Schafer’s specific infidelity account.
