The best-known original leads of One Tree Hill have continued in television and film, while some have also worked as writers, directors, hosts, or authors. Here’s what dated reports say about Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Hilarie Burton, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Sophia Bush—and what has, and has not, been reported about a possible sequel.
Where the five central cast members are now
The credits below are selected examples of work after One Tree Hill, not a complete filmography or a claim that an actor is currently attached to every project listed. Heart’s March 4, 2026 roundup provides a dated snapshot; other reporting is identified by its publication date.

Chad Michael Murray as Lucas Scott
Heart’s March 4, 2026 roundup names Sullivan’s Crossing, The Merry Gentlemen, and Freakier Friday among Murray’s later credits. These are examples from that article, not a statement that he is currently filming or appearing in each one.
James Lafferty as Nathan Scott
Lafferty has continued acting and has also worked behind the camera. Heart’s March 2026 selection includes Everyone Is Doing Great, A Pickleball Christmas, and The Haunting of Hill House, and notes his writing and directing work.

Hilarie Burton as Peyton Sawyer
Burton’s later work includes acting in The Walking Dead, documentary hosting, and the 2023 book Grimoire Girl, according to Glamour UK and Heart. She is also associated with Drama Queens, a podcast about One Tree Hill. Its current listing and description are available from Apple Podcasts; check the listing for the present host lineup rather than assuming who appears on every episode.
Bethany Joy Lenz as Haley James Scott
Lenz has continued screen work, including television movies, and published a memoir about her acting career and her experience in a cult during the One Tree Hill years. Simon & Schuster lists Dinner for Vampires: Life on a Cult TV Show (While also in an Actual Cult!) as a hardcover memoir published October 22, 2024, and also lists trade paperback, ebook, and audio download editions. Sophia Bush as Brooke Davis
Glamour UK’s March 10, 2026 cast overview discusses Bush’s acting and advocacy. The sequel news often associated with her is older and should be treated as a report about a project’s development at that time, not as confirmation of her current schedule.
Was a One Tree Hill sequel announced?
Parade reported on October 18, 2024, that a sequel series was in development, with Bush and Burton expected to reprise their roles and Danneel Ackles reportedly in talks. That is a dated development report, not confirmation that the project is currently in production, that a final cast has been set, or that a release date exists. The report is available at Parade.
