After a New York jury found Donald Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records on May 30, 2024, Saturday Night Live cast member James Austin Johnson responded with a Trump impression posted on social media. Instead of explaining the case, the character veered into a comic grievance about framed pictures in a Buca di Beppo bathroom and the price and ingredients of carbonara.
What Johnson’s video was
Johnson shared the video while Saturday Night Live was on its summer break, following the show’s May 18, 2024 season finale, TheWrap reported. It was a social-media post, not an official SNL episode or segment.

TheWrap and Rolling Stone Canada described Johnson returning to his rambling Trump character. In the bit, the character complains that diners should be able to take framed photos out of a Buca di Beppo men’s room, then turns to the cost and ingredients of carbonara and invokes a “disgraceful” judge. The restaurant and food complaints are comic detours in the impression, not facts about the criminal case.
The verdict behind the reaction
On May 30, 2024, a New York jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts in the criminal case. PBS NewsHour reported that the case concerned falsified business records used to cover up hush-money payments ahead of the 2016 presidential election; Rolling Stone Canada also described the verdict as guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
Johnson’s follow-up
TheWrap reported that Johnson promoted a summer comedy tour with fellow SNL cast members Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker in a follow-up post. Current tour dates, ticket availability, and the original post’s present availability were not verified.
