Spoilers for the ending of Longlegs (2024). The film does not confirm that Lee Harker is possessed. After killing her mother, Ruth, Lee cannot bring herself to destroy the last doll, and the story cuts off before showing what she does next. That hesitation makes continued supernatural influence plausible, but it can also be read as shock and grief.
How Lee reaches the final doll
Longlegs’s scheme reaches back to Lee’s childhood. Her mother, Ruth, made a bargain that spared Lee and left Ruth complicit in delivering dolls to families targeted by the killer. As an adult, Lee investigates the murders and gradually uncovers the connection between Ruth, Longlegs, and the dolls. Den of Geek’s ending account and Osgood Perkins’s Variety interview describe the revelations that lead into the finale.

The investigation ends in catastrophe for FBI supervisor Carter’s family. Lee confronts the consequences of the scheme and shoots Ruth. In the final confrontation, Lee is left with the doll but cannot shoot it. Ruby is still alive, yet the film provides no clear account of what happens after that moment. The Independent’s account of the ending likewise treats the close as open-ended.

Three ways to read Lee’s hesitation
Supernatural influence
The doll remains present, and Lee cannot destroy it. Within the film’s supernatural framework, that failure can suggest the evil has survived and still has a hold on her. The scene supports this reading, but does not prove it.
Trauma and grief
Lee has just learned of her mother’s betrayal and killed her. Her inability to act can also be understood as shock and emotional exhaustion. The film does not diagnose her state, so this reading is no more definitive than the supernatural one.

A tragic ending focused on Lee
Perkins’s Variety interview frames the film’s close around the end of Lee’s story, rather than a postscript explaining her future. That emphasis makes the final moment’s emotional cost central, while leaving the question of supernatural control unresolved.
The two questions that shape the ambiguity are whether the supernatural events are evidence of continuing control, and whether Lee’s hesitation is best explained by that influence or by immediate human trauma. The ending supplies no canonical yes-or-no answer to either.
