Reports say former U.S. president Joe Biden and his son Hunter visited the Philadelphia set of Reacher while season 4 was filming, and that Alan Ritchson shared photos of the meeting. The available reporting does not establish that the image sparked controversy or document a specific public reaction.
What the reports say about the visit
Coverage from 2025 identifies the former president as Joe Biden and places the reported visit on the Reacher set in Philadelphia during season 4 filming. The reports say Biden’s son Hunter was also there and that Ritchson shared photos on Instagram.
Secondary coverage attributes this caption to Ritchson: “Was a privilege and honor to meet the Biden family.” Because the original Instagram post was not directly available for inspection, the caption and image details should be treated as reported, not independently verified here.
Yahoo Entertainment’s report and AOL’s coverage describe the visit and the reported post.

Did the image actually spark controversy?
The available reports do not identify a controversy caused by the image, name a specific reaction, or establish how widely people responded. The headline claim that Ritchson “sparks controversy” therefore goes beyond what these sources substantiate. Without a verifiable original post and reliable reporting documenting the alleged reaction, it is more accurate to describe the episode as a reported set visit.
Why Matt Gaetz coverage is a separate story
Some coverage of Ritchson in 2025 concerned comments about former classmate Matt Gaetz and Gaetz’s public response. That exchange was reported as a separate February story; it does not show that the Biden visit or image prompted controversy. The two events should not be combined without direct evidence linking them.

Reacher is a Prime Video series. TV Guide identifies season 3 as an adaptation of Lee Child’s novel Persuader; that provides context for the show, but does not verify the Biden visit or any controversy surrounding a photo.
