Park Hae-soo, familiar to many viewers from Squid Game, plays the Witness and gives the ensemble a compelling center. The series’ slow-burn structure can make its tangled plotting rewarding, but it can also feel overworked; its grim material is not an easy fit for every viewer.
What is Karma on Netflix about?
Netflix’s 2025 thriller begins with an indebted man seeking money from a dangerous loan shark. When his plan goes wrong, a chain of consequences entangles five other people. Their stories arrive in stages, as secrets and decisions connect an ensemble of characters with very different stakes.
Netflix describes the series as six lives pulled into a cycle of retribution, while Netflix Tudum calls it a slow-burn thriller based on a webtoon. That gradual unfolding is central to the experience: the pleasure is in watching separate threads tighten, rather than following a straightforward crime investigation. It also creates the show’s main risk. If the delayed connections feel intriguing, the structure builds momentum; if they feel like machinery being assembled for its own sake, the same patience can turn into frustration.
Does Park Hae-soo stand out?
Park Hae-soo plays the Witness, one of six roles Netflix identifies by character label. His presence gives the ensemble a strong focal point, and the role’s place in the larger puzzle makes him especially useful to the series’ suspense. He is joined by Shin Min-a as Ju-yeon, Lee Hee-jun as the Debtor, Kim Sung-kyun as Gil-ryong, Lee Kwang-soo as Glasses, and Gong Seung-yeon as Yu-jeong.

The appeal of a six-character setup depends on whether viewers can keep the people, motives, and connections distinct as the story expands. Karma has an ensemble broad enough to sustain its interlocking design, but the plotting sometimes asks the cast to carry more complexity than the material comfortably supports. Park’s performance is a notable reason to stay with it; it does not make every turn equally convincing.
Why does the story feel uneven?
The central trade-off is between accumulation and overload. A growing web of bad decisions can be engrossing, especially when each revelation changes how an earlier event looks. But a slow burn needs to make each delay count. Here, the layered construction can occasionally seem more elaborate than the underlying connections warrant, so the reveals do not always land with equal force.

That mixed response is reflected in contemporary criticism. In an April 11, 2025 review, Pierce Conran of the South China Morning Post rated the series 3/5, noting that many consequences are predictable while finding fun in the thickening connections. Decider’s Joel Keller, writing April 7, 2025, described the intertwining plots as capable of making a fine series or an exercise in frustration, depending on how long they take to develop. Those are useful descriptions of the dividing line: viewers who enjoy tracking a knot of stories may find the patience worthwhile, while those who want a lean, swiftly resolved thriller may find it meanders.
How brutal is Karma?
The show’s TV-MA rating and crime-thriller premise signal adult material, and violence is part of the consequences driving the story. Its grimness contributes to the sense that characters are trapped by their own choices, but the harsh tone may feel punishing rather than purposeful if you prefer crime dramas that keep violence restrained. This is a spoiler-light recommendation: the series deals in disturbing subject matter, and viewers sensitive to violence may want to approach it cautiously.

How many episodes are in Karma?
Netflix lists six episodes, with runtimes from 47 to 61 minutes. The sequence starts with “The Man With Loan Shark Debts” and ends with “Karma”; the full list shows how the series shifts focus as its connections emerge.

Is Karma worth watching?
Yes, if you like bleak ensemble thrillers that reveal their connections gradually and you are willing to tolerate some narrative overcomplication. Park Hae-soo and the cast give the tangled setup a human focus, and the six-episode length keeps the commitment manageable. Skip it if you want a consistently streamlined plot or a less punishing crime story: the show’s violence and uneven pacing are not incidental drawbacks but part of the experience.
