The film was presented as a 4K digital remaster of the original footage, with sound remixed in 5.1 and Dolby Atmos by Steven Wilson. The release campaign also listed Blu-ray and DVD editions. What is the film, and how was it made?
A concert film without a crowd
Pink Floyd performed in the Roman amphitheatre at Pompeii without an audience. The footage was filmed in October 1971, and the empty arena gives the film a markedly different feel from a conventional concert movie. French director Adrian Maben conceived the location after visiting Pompeii; EL PAÍS described his idea as “an anti-Woodstock,” where the music and empty amphitheatre mattered as much as, or more than, a cheering crowd. (EL PAÍS, 2025)
More than one version
The film’s history includes edits of different lengths. EL PAÍS reports that a one-hour concert film was shown at a festival in 1972, followed by an extended version that added about half an hour, including footage of the band recording The Dark Side of the Moon at Abbey Road. Some performance material, including “Careful With That Axe, Eugene” and “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun,” was recorded in a Paris studio rather than at Pompeii. (EL PAÍS, 2025)

The demanding shoot
EL PAÍS’s 2025 retrospective reports that temperatures reached 35°C during filming and that the crew ran a 1,000-metre cable to city hall to power the equipment. These are figures from the publication’s retrospective account, rather than production-log measurements. The same article places the film’s Spanish release in 1974, during the final years of Franco’s dictatorship, and recalls its circulation through art-house film clubs. Producer and director Gonzalo García Pelayo remembered it as “a window of freedom.” (EL PAÍS, 2025)
Was there a soundtrack release?
A standalone soundtrack was reported for release on May 2, 2025, on CD, vinyl and streaming. Its reported material includes “Echoes” in two parts, “Careful With That Axe, Eugene,” “A Saucerful of Secrets,” “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun,” “One of These Days” and “Mademoiselle Nobs,” alongside alternate or unedited material. Confirm the track order and edition with a current label or retailer listing before buying; the reported formats do not establish current stock.

Where can you watch Pink Floyd at Pompeii now?
The 2025 announcement establishes a past theatrical release, not present-day cinema or streaming availability. For a theater screening, check current listings in your area, including whether the venue is showing a standard or IMAX presentation. For home viewing, confirm the edition and availability directly with a current retailer or streaming service; the reported Blu-ray and DVD campaign formats do not verify what is in stock or online now.
