The series has since finished: its finale streamed on May 20, 2026, and Amazon says all five seasons are available on Prime Video.
What Jack Quaid said about the ending
In remarks attributed to his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Quaid described the five-season run as the showrunner’s intended plan. Yahoo Entertainment reported him saying: “I think it’s good that we end with season five because we’re ending on our own terms. It’s not like someone canceled us and we’re trying to quickly make a season that feels final. This was always the showrunner’s intention to end with five seasons and I’ve actually known that for a little bit and tried to keep my mouth shut about it [Laughs].” Yahoo Entertainment
Quaid also anticipated a chaotic final season: “But there’s something great about an ending that’s intentional, and The Boys season five is gonna be crazy. It’s gonna be very messy. I don’t know, I just keep thinking a lot of us are probably gonna die. It’s just going to be insane and I’m excited to see what that entails.” Yahoo Entertainment
These comments are available here through Yahoo’s reporting on Quaid’s interview, rather than a transcript of the full original interview. They establish his view that the ending was intentional, but not the full context of the conversation.

How the plan became the series finale
Amazon announced the Season 5 order on May 14, 2024. Its current series guide identifies that season as the final one, and says the finale streamed on May 20, 2026. Amazon’s Season 5 order announcement Amazon’s current series guide
Showrunner Eric Kripke called The Boys “the best job I’ll ever have” in Amazon’s renewal announcement, adding that the series let him write about politics, capitalism, family, and “exploding genitalia.” The quote is a glimpse of the show’s deliberately irreverent approach, not an explanation of the ending beyond Quaid’s account.
