Liam Gallagher and John Squire’s self-titled debut album, Liam Gallagher John Squire (also styled Liam Gallagher & John Squire), was released on March 1, 2024, through Warner Records. “Mars To Liverpool” is not the album title: it was the second single and the LP’s second track.
Album release and announcement
Warner Music Ireland announced the album on January 26, 2024, alongside the release of “Mars To Liverpool” as its second single. The album followed on March 1, 2024, a date confirmed in Warner Records’ release-day material. The announcement also included the pair’s first joint tour.
The record is self-titled: its name is Liam Gallagher John Squire, sometimes styled Liam Gallagher & John Squire. “Mars To Liverpool” is a song on the album, not an alternate LP title.

How Gallagher and Squire made the album
The collaboration took shape after Squire joined Gallagher onstage at the Knebworth shows in 2022. In an interview with The Guardian, the musicians described how the idea developed: Gallagher wanted guitar-led music and Squire to write the lyrics. Gallagher recorded initial vocals at Squire’s home studio in Macclesfield in May 2023. Four months later, they went to Los Angeles and recorded ten tracks over three weeks.
Greg Kurstin produced the album and played bass and piano; Joey Waronker played drums. Warner’s announcement also credits Kurstin and Waronker.

What the songs sound like
The descriptions vary by source, so they are best read as characterizations rather than a single definitive genre label. Warner described “Mars To Liverpool” as infectious rock ’n’ roll with a 1960s-tinged psychedelic undercurrent, chiming riffs and classic-rock solos. The Guardian characterized the album as psychedelic blues.
Warner’s release notes point to a range of moods and influences: they describe “Raise Your Hands” as glam rock, note melancholy in “One Day At A Time,” and hear early Stone Roses echoes in “Just Another Rainbow.” The notes also cite 1960s and 1970s reference points including the Sex Pistols, Jimi Hendrix and the Faces. Squire described the intended mix in Warner’s announcement as including melancholic moments alongside irreverent, rude or crude ones. The Guardian identified “Mother Nature’s Song” as a nature-themed closer.
