What does Jane’s backstory reveal?
The flashbacks depict Jane as a child living with a mother who appears inattentive or disdainful. TVLine’s recap also describes Jane engaging with an imaginary friend who sometimes encourages harmful actions. These scenes provide context for Jane’s history; they do not establish a clinical diagnosis.
The A.V. Club singles out a Wii in Jane’s childhood story. The console matters not simply as a toy, but for who gave it to her and what it represents in a childhood short on ordinary care. The episode uses that object to make the deprivation in her past tangible.

Why does Gary betray Xavier?
Xavier attempts to infiltrate the train cars while Gary keeps watch outside. According to The A.V. Club’s recap, Gary rigs the bomb to detonate early, undermining Xavier’s plan. The betrayal turns their operation into an immediate threat rather than the coordinated move Xavier expects.
What else happens in the bunker?
While the train operation unfolds, Sinatra takes action in the bunker, as the platform synopsis notes. TVLine’s recap adds a separate thread: Jeremy and Anders, the bunker architect being held in detention, plot an escape. The episode therefore keeps the bunker conflict moving even as it focuses much of its attention on Jane and Xavier’s mission.
