Spoilers for the season 2 finale of House of the Dragon and events from Game of Thrones.
Daenerys appears in Daemon’s vision of the future—not in a direct encounter across time. The image links the prequel’s prophecy to Game of Thrones, and reminds Daemon that his own ambitions are only one part of a much larger Targaryen story. The show’s creators say the audience recognizes Daenerys, but Daemon does not.
What happens when Daemon sees Daenerys?
In the season 2 finale, Daemon touches the weirwood in Harrenhal’s Godswood and sees a rapid series of images tied to Westeros’s future, including the Three-Eyed Raven, the White Walkers, and Daenerys after her dragons hatch. It is a vision, not a meeting between Daemon and a woman living in another era. TIME’s recap describes Daemon as taking the sequence as confirmation of the Song of Ice and Fire prophecy before pledging allegiance to Rhaenyra. TIME’s finale recap
Why does Daemon see Daenerys?
Writer and executive producer Sara Hess said the creative team wanted the vision to connect with Game of Thrones at the point where Daenerys finds the dragon eggs. Hess also identifies Daenerys as a descendant of Daemon and Rhaenyra: the image places their choices within a family history that continues long after their own lives.

Hess explained that seeing this larger story makes Daemon recognize that he is “just this tiny piece of this massive story.” Showrunner Ryan Condal added that, although Daemon and Rhaenyra will not themselves save the realm from the White Walkers, their actions affect how that future unfolds. These explanations appear in Sky’s season 2 finale explanation.
Does Daemon know that he is seeing Daenerys?
No—not according to Condal. He said, “We know who Daenerys is watching that image, but Daemon has no idea.” The scene gives viewers a recognizable link to the later series; it does not show Daemon identifying the woman or knowing her name. Popverse’s interview with Condal

How does the vision change Daemon?
The vision shifts Daemon’s perspective from his personal claim and ambition to the fate of the realm. Finale director Geeta Vasant Patel said the experience convinces him that “there is something bigger than him.” It is not simply a matter of Daemon submitting to Rhaenyra: he comes to see a larger purpose and chooses to support her. In the finale, he publicly backs Rhaenyra and rallies the army he has raised. TVLine’s interview with Patel
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the cameo prove Daenerys is the Prince That Was Promised?
No. The image connects Daenerys to the prophecy and to the Targaryen family line, but the cited creator explanations do not declare her the sole Prince That Was Promised. The prophecy’s fulfillment remains open to interpretation: the later story also associates the struggle against the Night King with Jon Snow and Arya Stark. Daenerys’s appearance in Daemon’s vision is a connection between the two series, not a definitive ruling on who fulfilled the prophecy.
