One-Punch Man season 3 has drawn sharply negative audience scores on major rating pages, but the available figures do not prove it has set an all-time record. Rotten Tomatoes showed an 8% Popcornmeter from 500+ ratings on October 4, 2026, while IMDb’s first three episode scores were also low. The reviews show a split over animation, fights, story and humor—not a single agreed explanation.
What the audience scores show—and what they do not
Rotten Tomatoes listed season 3 at 8% on its Popcornmeter, based on 500+ audience ratings, when the page was checked October 4, 2026. That is a dated snapshot: ratings and counts can change. The same page listed three critic reviews, a small and separate sample that should not be confused with the audience score. Rotten Tomatoes’ season 3 page.
IMDb’s episode list showed 3.8/10 for S3E1, 3.6/10 for S3E2 and 3.6/10 for S3E3 when checked October 4, 2026; the vote counts are also shown on the page and may change. Those are individual episode ratings, not a season-wide IMDb score. IMDb’s season 3 episode list.
“Record-low” needs a defined comparison set, such as scores for earlier seasons or a historical ranking across anime. The cited pages establish very low displayed ratings, but do not provide a comprehensive comparison proving an all-time record. It is more accurate to describe the reception as sharply negative on these pages than to state that the season has definitively made history.
Why are fans upset about season 3?
The audience reviews displayed by Rotten Tomatoes illustrate a disagreement about what the season delivers. Some reviewers criticize the animation and scene quality, fight presentation, story, Garou storyline or reduced focus on Saitama. One favorable reviewer, by contrast, says the absurdities and humor are enjoyable. These are individual opinions surfaced on the page, not survey findings that establish how common each view is.
Animation and fight presentation
Some negative reviewers say the animation and action do not meet their expectations. Those reactions point to visual execution as one point of contention, but the ratings and review examples alone cannot establish a production cause.

Humor, pacing and character focus
Other reactions concern the season’s tone, story and distribution of attention among characters. Viewers who come primarily for Saitama may respond differently to a storyline that gives more attention to Garou and other characters. The available reviews do not show that every dissatisfied viewer shares this complaint.
Expectations matter, but are not a complete explanation
Comparisons with earlier seasons or the manga are natural ways for viewers to judge a continuation, but they do not identify one cause for the low scores. The official anime site credits Shinpei Nagai as season 3 director and Tomohiro Suzuki with series composition; those credits provide production context, not evidence that either role caused audience dissatisfaction. Season 3 premiered on October 12, 2025, according to Rotten Tomatoes and VIZ Media. How to decide whether the season is for you
- If visual action is your priority: the animation and fight staging are among the issues raised by negative reviewers, so the low ratings may reflect concerns most relevant to you.
- If you watch for the comedy: at least one displayed reviewer says the absurd humor still works for them, even amid the negative response.
- If you want more Saitama: some reviewers object to the reduced focus on him and to the emphasis on the Garou storyline.
- If you want to compare with the source: VIZ lists One-Punch Man, Vol. 1, a paperback by writer ONE and artist Yusuke Murata. It is an entry point to the manga, not a season 3-specific edition. VIZ’s volume 1 listing.
Is season 3 really that bad?
The available ratings show that many users on Rotten Tomatoes rated the season negatively, and IMDb’s first three episode scores were low in the October 4, 2026 snapshot. They do not settle whether the season is enjoyable for a particular viewer, explain every rating, or prove an all-time record. The clearest picture is a divided audience with substantial criticism of presentation and story choices, alongside at least some appreciation for the series’ absurd humor.
