Later details and viewer comments connected the allegation to contestant Ben Mezzenga, but the first video did not name him. Berghoff’s claims were allegations, Mezzenga disputed them, and his then-fiancée Sara Carton said she took them seriously while feeling she lacked enough context to judge them.
What the TikTok videos said—and how viewers identified Mezzenga
Berghoff’s first video, posted while the season was being filmed in March 2024, criticized the casting and described an unnamed man’s alleged behavior toward women. It did not explicitly identify Mezzenga. Follow-up videos reportedly included details such as the man’s University of Minnesota baseball background and real-estate work; viewers in the comments named Mezzenga. Elite Daily and TV Insider describe that distinction.
As reported by TV Insider and Us Weekly, Berghoff alleged that the man had treated women badly, manipulated or lied to them, and was not on the show for the right reasons. One later video reportedly accused him of treating women on campus as disposable. These statements were Berghoff’s allegations; the reporting does not independently establish the alleged conduct.
What Mezzenga said in response
Reports say Mezzenga recognized Berghoff and described a past Tinder match or date. He denied manipulating her, called the claims made up or an overreaction, and said he remembered little about their interaction. Those are his reported responses, not an independent resolution of the competing accounts. TV Insider and Us Weekly recount the exchange.

How Sara Carton reacted while filming
Carton said she first saw one of the videos while at a brewery with Mezzenga and his friends, then raised it with him. According to her account, a producer separated them, and they later discussed a second video at their apartment on camera. Carton described the claims as broad and said she did not have enough context to decide what to make of them.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Carton said: “She didn’t say anything specific other than him treating girls s—-y — and that can be taken in so many ways.” She also told Elite Daily: “I knew I obviously had to take it seriously, but I trusted Ben.” Asked about contacting Berghoff, she told Elite Daily: “There was no interest for me to reach out.”

What happened to Carton and Mezzenga after the show
Carton and Mezzenga did not marry at the altar. Later reunion coverage reported that Carton said the TikTok made more sense to her in hindsight. Reports also say the two briefly continued their relationship after the wedding decision before separating. That sequence does not establish the TikTok as the sole cause of the breakup. Us Weekly and Elite Daily cover Carton’s account and the relationship timeline.

The available coverage describes the videos and interviews with participants; it does not provide independent corroboration of the underlying alleged conduct or access to all original TikTok posts and production records. The key distinction is that a later identification connected the allegation to Mezzenga, while the first post reportedly left the man unnamed. Berghoff’s statements, Mezzenga’s denial, and Carton’s reaction should therefore be understood as attributed accounts rather than verified findings.
