Season 9 is cringey less because its couples fail to marry than because the season repeatedly turns tentative connections, uncomfortable conversations and public breakups into uneasy viewing. That is a critical judgment, not a measurable audience consensus. The clearest evidence is on screen: three couples entered the finale still engaged, only two reached the altar, and neither married.
What happened in Love Is Blind Season 9?
The ninth season follows 32 Denver-area singles, ages 27 to 41, who date in the pods and can get engaged before meeting face to face. Netflix says the pods are in California, despite the season’s Denver setting. The season’s 12 episodes arrived in four batches: episodes 1–6 on October 1, 2025; episodes 7–9 on October 8; episodes 10–11 on October 15; and episode 12 on October 22. The reunion followed on October 29. Netflix’s Season 9 guide and its reunion schedule document those details.

The outcome gave the season an unusually stark ending: no couple married, the first zero-marriage finale in the show’s nine-season history at the time. Three couples were still engaged heading into the finale; two made it to the altar. Netflix’s finale interview reports the milestone, as does Axios Denver’s local account.
Why does this season feel so cringey?
Awkwardness becomes the main event
Awkward dates and breakups are familiar ingredients in the format. The discomfort here comes from how often the exchanges seem to stall or turn strained, leaving viewers to sit with the mismatch rather than watch a connection deepen. The Washington Post’s recap of episodes 10 and 11 explicitly identifies “cringe moments,” alongside its criticism of perceived casting choices and red flags. Those are the reviewer’s interpretations, not objective verdicts on the people involved. The Washington Post’s episode recap gives examples from those episodes.
#1 Best Overall
Some conversations draw attention away from romance
Glamour argued that the season’s conversations and rhetoric departed from the earlier mix of connection and unstaged drama that made the show compelling. That critique helps explain why awkwardness can feel different from ordinary reality-TV mess: when a conversation becomes the story, the experiment’s romantic premise recedes. It is one reviewer’s assessment, not a universal response. Glamour’s Season 9 review lays out that view.
The finale withholds the payoff the format promises
The show’s central question is whether a relationship formed without sight can survive life together. A wedding is not the only meaningful outcome, but a season in which no couple marries gives viewers no successful altar decision to balance the breakups. That makes the ending feel less like a conventional romantic payoff and more like a record of an experiment that did not produce a marriage. It does not, by itself, prove that every relationship or conversation was pointless.
Cringe depends partly on how the show is watched
The Los Angeles Times’ blindfolded viewing feature offers a useful counterpoint: listening without seeing the participants made some awkward or surprising reveals feel more sympathetic. That suggests at least part of the discomfort is shaped by presentation. The show asks viewers to focus on voices in the pods, but its visual editing, reactions and later face-to-face encounters can change how a moment lands. The same exchange may feel more exposed when viewers can see the people having it. The Los Angeles Times feature describes that viewing experience.
What participants said after seeing the season
It is important to distinguish the aired footage from later reflections. In a post-reunion update, participant Nick Amato described watching his early-season behavior as “really dissociative” and “very jarring.” Netflix’s report says he was referring to his crass humor and dirty jokes. Those are his words about his own on-screen behavior, not evidence about the cast as a whole. Netflix’s post-reunion update provides the context.
Rank #3
The same update reports Amato’s response to comments he made about LGBTQ people: “That’s a full sentence right there that can hurt people in a marginalized community and I take full accountability for my ignorance and my comments.” The remarks and his subsequent accountability should be understood together; neither should be used as a proxy for every participant or every conversation in the season.
Is Season 9 the worst Love Is Blind season?
There is no objective answer in the available evidence. “Worst” depends on what a viewer values: marriages, compelling relationships, uncomfortable conflict, or a satisfying emotional arc. Season 9 is distinctive on one clear measure—its zero-marriage finale—but that fact cannot establish that it is the worst season overall. Nor is there a verified audience study here that would support a numerical claim about how many viewers found it cringey.
Rank #4
The creator’s defense is a reminder that marriage is not the only possible measure of the experiment. In Netflix’s finale interview, Chris Coelen said, “Whether they succeed or fail, the trying is the most enjoyable and important part for me.” That is a producer’s perspective, and it offers a genuine counterpoint: failed relationships can still make revealing television. Whether the season makes that attempt rewarding to watch is a matter of taste.
