Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays King Aegon II Targaryen in House of the Dragon, says the injuries Aegon suffers after the Battle of Rook’s Rest were physically intense to portray. The quote refers to the prosthetics and makeup—not to Aegon’s eventual fate. In a July 15, 2024 interview with Nick Romano for Entertainment Weekly, syndicated by Yahoo Entertainment, Glynn-Carney says he knows where Aegon’s story goes but does not disclose the outcome. Read the interview at Yahoo Entertainment.
What happens to Aegon after Rook’s Rest?
The series leaves Aegon barely alive after the Battle of Rook’s Rest, comatose and severely injured, with burns, broken bones and internal injuries. That is the immediate aftermath shown in the story; it is not the same as revealing what ultimately happens to him.
What did Tom Glynn-Carney mean by “It is really intense”?
Glynn-Carney was describing the experience of wearing the prosthetics and makeup used to portray Aegon’s injuries. He said the work helped him feel that something “horrendous” had happened, while also restricting his movement.
“It is really intense, but at the same time, it fully makes me feel like something horrendous has happened.”

A tight prosthetic piece around his neck affected how he moved, encouraging him to hold his head and body together rather than move his head freely. Glynn-Carney connected that physical restriction to the tightness associated with facial and neck burns.
“There’s a piece down my neck, which is really tight and forces me to move as one unit rather than being able to move my head independently, which is typical of somebody with facial burns and neck burns, where the skin is so tight.”

Does the interview reveal Aegon’s fate?
No. Glynn-Carney says he knows where Aegon’s story goes, but the interview does not state what that outcome is. His comment is a hint that the actor knows the planned direction of the character, not a confirmation of a specific ending.
