Pascal—not Joan—is the one described as scared in The Golden Bachelorette’s Tahiti episode. During his date with Joan Vassos, he says he cares for her as a friend, does not feel a romantic spark, and cannot offer the relationship she wants. He leaves, making Guy and Chock the two men remaining after Hometowns.

Why does Pascal leave?
According to the recap, Pascal feels scared by the ceremony and by the prospect of the relationship. In their conversation, he tells Joan that his feelings are those of a friend, not a romantic partner, and that he cannot give her what she needs. Joan is hurt but accepts his honesty. Pascal leaves the show during the episode, while Guy and Chock remain.
The recap’s audience-facing reaction captures the surprise: “Who knew that Pascale would leave as he was always our favorite!” It spells the name “Pascale” in that line, but refers to him elsewhere as Pascal. The account supports a clear distinction: Pascal expresses fear and unreadiness; it does not report that Joan says she is scared of him.

How does Joan’s connection with each man differ?
The recap presents three different relationship signals in Tahiti:
- Guy: Joan wonders whether he is further ahead emotionally than she is.
- Chock: She sees a strong connection, but wonders whether it might be too good to be true.
- Pascal: She wants to know whether he can open up, but he tells her he cannot offer the romantic commitment she wants.
These are the recap’s descriptions of the episode, not independent confirmation of what the contestants privately felt. Pascal’s conversation, as recounted there, resolves the uncertainty about his readiness: he does not reciprocate Joan’s romantic hopes.

Who remains after Pascal’s exit?
Guy and Chock are the two contestants left after Pascal departs. The episode’s central turn is not a rose decision among all three men: Pascal tells Joan he sees their connection as friendship and exits before the final two continue.
