Furiosa loses her left arm in the Bullet Farm ambush, survives long enough to return to the Citadel, and ultimately captures Dementus. The film ends with a peach seed from her childhood home taking root in a tree grown from his living body—a final image that leads toward Mad Max: Fury Road.
How does Furiosa lose her arm?
Dementus’s forces ambush Furiosa and Praetorian Jack at the Bullet Farm. In the attack, Furiosa’s left arm is mangled. She tears it off to escape. The loss is a consequence of the violence that has followed her since Dementus’s gang took her from the Green Place and killed her mother.
The ending recap from GameSpot, published May 23, 2024, describes the injury and escape without establishing further mechanical details, so the important point is the choice forced on Furiosa: she sacrifices the arm to get free.
What is Mad Max doing in the ending?
Badly injured, Furiosa is found by Mad Max, who apparently brings her to the Citadel. His appearance is brief: he does not join her campaign against Dementus or become her partner. It is a small continuity link between the two films.

Director and co-writer George Miller described the connection in a May 23, 2024, National Board of Review Q&A: “And we have a film now, all this time later, that runs directly into Fury Road, as you saw here.” That is Miller talking about the films’ timeline, not a line of dialogue in the movie. The interview is available from the National Board of Review.
What happens to Dementus?
After the Citadel conflict, Furiosa tracks Dementus down and captures him. Rather than simply killing him, she uses a peach seed from the Green Place to grow a tree from his living body. The ending later shows the tree bearing fruit.

The image can be read as Furiosa carrying a remnant of home into the Wasteland and making life persist in the aftermath of violence. That is an interpretation of the scene, not a meaning attributed to Miller in the cited accounts.
What does Dementus’s teddy bear mean?
The teddy bear is part of Dementus’s costume, but Chris Hemsworth, who plays him, described it as more than a visual detail. In the National Board of Review Q&A, Hemsworth said it began in concept art, became part of the costume, and took on meaning for both Dementus and Furiosa. He said: “It also represented a loss of innocence for the entire wasteland.”

That is Hemsworth’s explanation of the symbol, with Miller agreeing in the interview that the thread became stronger. It offers a way to read the bear without reducing it to a single definitive meaning.

Furiosa tells the events that shape Furiosa before she appears in Fury Road. Miller said her backstory had been developed before Fury Road was shot, and described the newer film as running directly into it. The closing movement toward Furiosa at the Citadel and her connection with Joe’s wives points toward the world and circumstances of the later film.
