Which episode is Season 4, Episode 8?
CBS lists Season 4, Episode 8 as “Fresh Start,” dated December 12, 2025. The network’s episode guide places the Zabel Ridge arsonist leak in Episode 11, “Elite of the Elite,” not Episode 8. The CBS Studios Episode 11 release, dated February 12, 2026, gives that installment the premise: “As Bode fights to prove himself during the high-stakes REMs tryouts, a shocking leak about the Zabel Ridge arsonist ignites turmoil across Edgewater.” That description signals a leak, but does not itself name the arsonist.
So “Fresh Start” raises a possible connection between Landon and the fires, but it does not confirm who set the Zabel Ridge fire. The phrase “Bode shows some shocking restraint” also does not match the reported episode events: Bode intervenes when Landon is yelling at Tyler.
What happens in “Fresh Start”?
Bode reconnects with Chloe during a drunk-driving drill
The official Paramount+ episode listing describes Bode taking part in a high school drunk-driving drill that unexpectedly reconnects him with former classmate Chloe. TV Insider’s episode recap identifies Chloe as Tyler’s mother. She learns Tyler has been spending time at Station 42, and Bode tells her he recognizes his younger self in Tyler.

The drill’s simulated memorial also lands painfully for Sharon, whose grief for Vince is real. The exercise therefore connects the episode’s staged scenario to the characters’ ongoing losses.
Tyler’s home life sharpens the conflict
Tyler’s volatility becomes harder for Bode to dismiss as simple misbehavior. After Tyler damages an ambulance, Bode makes him clean it. Tyler says his stepfather threatened to kill him if he did. He also insists Landon is not his father.

When Bode and Chloe return to her home, they find Landon yelling at Tyler. Bode steps in and takes Tyler outside. Tyler says Landon hurt him, his family, and the town, then brings up the fires. His accusation is not proof, but it gives Bode a reason to wonder whether Landon started the Zabel Ridge fire.
Three Rock reopens, and Bode moves beyond probation
Alongside the family conflict, Three Rock reopens with a new crew and renewed hopes, as the official episode synopsis puts it. Luke returns from Japan as assistant unit chief and offers Bode a possible future on Cal Fire’s Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) team. He also helps Bode complete the final item on his probationary checklist. TV Insider reports that Bode finishes the task book and is no longer a probationary firefighter.

What Episode 8 establishes—and what it leaves open
- Established: “Fresh Start” reconnects Bode with Chloe through a drunk-driving drill and reopens Three Rock with a new crew.
- Established: Tyler describes threats and harm involving Landon, and Bode intervenes in their confrontation.
- Raised, not resolved: Bode suspects Landon may be tied to the Zabel Ridge fire after Tyler’s remarks.
- Not established in Episode 8: the identity of the Zabel Ridge arsonist. CBS assigns the “shocking leak” premise to Episode 11, and its press release does not itself identify the culprit.
