The moment stands out because Lois can understand the baby she ordinarily cannot. Brian’s edibles provide the story’s device for letting the two communicate. TV Insider described the payoff as “27 years in the making,” an outlet’s framing of the long-running gag rather than a separately established production statistic. TV Insider’s Alex Borstein interview covers the episode and the milestone.
Why the Lois–Stewie exchange matters
The series has long made a comic divide out of Stewie’s ability to speak while the adults around him generally do not understand him. A conversation with Lois turns that familiar setup on its head: instead of Stewie being the only one who knows what he is saying, his mother can finally take part in the exchange.

The idea had already produced a strong response before the episode aired. TV Insider reported that the cast performed the Lois-and-Stewie story as a live table read at the Paley Center’s 2024 celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary. Showrunner Rich Appel recalled the audience’s recognition of the moment’s significance:
“Because they were obviously big fans who came to this event, but they recognized in the lore of the show after 25 years that would be a big, big moment,” Appel remembered.
The quotation and table-read account come from TV Insider’s interview with Appel; it is not presented as an official production transcript.
