Spoilers for Season 1, Episode 6, “Cats & Mouse.” Dexter believes he has killed the Gemini Killer—until a second man arrives at his rendezvous with Leon Prater. Gemini is not one killer who survived Dexter’s attack: the threat is a pair of twin brothers.
What happens in “Cats & Mouse”?
While Dexter hunts the person he believes is the Gemini Killer, the episode also follows Harrison’s struggle with his identity and fear of his own violent urges. Paramount+’s official synopsis captures those parallel threads: “As Dexter closes in on a murderer, Harrison faces a crisis of identity.”

Dexter targets Gareth, whom he believes is Gemini. He lures Gareth with a poisoned gin and tonic and kills him while events continue upstairs at Blessing’s mother’s funeral. With Gareth dead, Dexter appears to have ended the pursuit.
Who is the Gemini Killer?
Gemini is a pair of twin brothers who kill together. Dexter has killed one brother, but he does not know that when he accepts a summons to meet Leon Prater. At the helicopter rendezvous, another man arrives. Dexter recognizes that the person he killed was only one of the twins, and the surviving brother is still there.

The reveal is not that Gareth escaped or that Dexter killed the wrong person. He killed one of two killers and mistook that apparent victory for the end of the threat.
What happens to Mia and Batista?
Mia, also known as Lady Vengeance, is found dead in her cell. TVLine’s recap reports that Prater arranged her killing because he feared she would expose his secrets.

What is happening with Harrison?
Harrison is afraid of giving in to his violent urges and does not want those impulses to define him. Dexter promises not to shape Harrison into his own image. That conversation gives the episode an emotional counterpoint to Dexter’s hunt: Harrison is trying to decide who he will become, while Dexter’s certainty about the Gemini case proves dangerously incomplete.

What does the twin reveal change?
Dexter’s apparent win becomes a more complicated pursuit: killing Gareth has not removed Gemini, because the name refers to two brothers working together. The surviving twin’s appearance at the rendezvous makes clear that Dexter has underestimated how many killers he is facing.
