Spoilers for “The Northern Star,” the Season 2 premiere of Daredevil: Born Again.
The premiere is a brutally solid start: it puts Matt Murdock’s fight against Wilson Fisk’s anti-vigilante regime into motion, then widens the threat with a Washington power broker who can make the city’s weapons problem look like government business. “The Northern Star” is the official title of Season 2, Episode 1.

What happens in “The Northern Star”?
New York is operating under Mayor Wilson Fisk’s campaign against vigilantes. Daredevil is in hiding, but he has not stopped acting; as the official Disney+ synopsis puts it, he remains active while a shadowy figure from Washington, D.C., enters the picture. Fisk’s effort to turn public opinion against Daredevil gives every intervention a political cost as well as a physical one.
Daredevil hits an arms deal at sea
In the episode account reported by GamesRadar+, Daredevil interrupts an illegal arms deal aboard a boat. The operation does not end with the weapons recovered: after they have been smuggled, Fisk’s crew sinks the vessel. Fisk then goes on television and blames Daredevil, turning the intervention into ammunition for his public campaign.

Mr. Charles brings Washington into Fisk’s orbit
The shadowy Washington figure is Mr. Charles. He appears during a meeting between Fisk and government officials and demonstrates that he can influence the Attorney General. Later, he describes his role in moving military ordnance through the city. The episode therefore introduces him not simply as a political visitor, but as someone with access to both official authority and a dangerous supply chain.
Why Fisk’s anti-vigilante campaign matters
Fisk’s regime changes the terms of Daredevil’s work. Matt must resist from the shadows while the mayor tries to define that resistance as a threat to the city. The Walt Disney Company describes the broader season conflict as Matt trying to dismantle Fisk’s corrupt empire and redeem his home; its account also points to the propaganda campaign and Anti-Vigilante Task Force as escalating pressures.

Executive producer Sana Amanat described the uneasy bond between the rivals this way: “They cannot exist without each other.” That tension gives the premiere more than a simple outlaw-versus-mayor setup: both men are fighting for New York’s allegiance, but Fisk has the advantage of wielding public office and the story told about Daredevil.
Does the premiere earn “brutally solid”?
As a premiere, “The Northern Star” works by connecting a contained action sequence to a larger political danger. Daredevil’s boat operation establishes the immediate stakes; Fisk’s televised blame shows how the mayor can recast even a rescue as evidence against vigilantism; and Mr. Charles hints that the city’s crisis reaches beyond Fisk’s local machinery. The episode’s strongest hook is that Matt’s opponents can fight him in public, through institutions, and through violence at once.

That makes “brutally solid” my assessment of the opening episode, not a reported consensus or a premiere-specific score. Dario Scardapane, the season’s showrunner, framed the season’s choices in the Disney interview: “Each character comes to a point where they have to make a decision and they have to choose a side — and each one of them, in making that decision, has to pay a price.” The premiere sets that moral pressure in place without resolving it.
