The walk-off followed a case-locking decision with fellow contestant Dickson Wong; Manganiello also explained why Will’s apparent $72,000 Banker deal was not yet final.
What happened on the hammock excursion
In an interview published by Entertainment Weekly on February 4, 2025, Manganiello described the excursion as a pairing of Dr. Will and Dickson Wong. His account is the source for the incident details here.
The players had to weigh case values against their chances of staying safe from elimination. Manganiello said Dickson was intensely afraid of heights. Will told him that the case at his first level held a lower value. Dickson nevertheless chose immunity and pulled his rope. Will pulled his own rope as well, hoping to gain an advantage, but the cases were locked with Dickson’s value higher.
That result left Will vulnerable. Manganiello said Will realized what had happened and walked into the jungle; the production finished the excursion without him. The interview does not provide an independent production record or a full episode transcript, so the sequence should be understood as Manganiello’s account.

Why Dr. Will could reverse the apparent Banker deal
The first Banker offer was $72,000. According to Manganiello, Will pressed the button immediately after the offer, catching the host off guard. But pressing the button did not, by itself, make the deal official under the rule Manganiello described.
“The rules state that a deal cannot be accepted or rejected until I verbally say, ‘Deal or No Deal,’” Manganiello told Entertainment Weekly. He said he had previously used the phrase “Now, to make it official…” before asking the question. Will later unaccepted the offer after castmates challenged him. In Manganiello’s explanation, the verbal question was the point at which the choice became final.
