What Harry Jowsey said about his diagnosis
Jowsey, known for appearing on Dancing With the Stars season 32, disclosed the result in a TikTok posted April 26, 2024, according to The Independent. A dermatologist had examined a mole on his shoulder and found skin cancer, TV Insider reported on April 28, 2024. Jowsey said, “I’m gonna be all good. Everything’s gonna be okay,” and urged people, “Please wear sunscreen.”
Those reassuring words are not a medical prognosis. The coverage reviewed does not establish what type of skin cancer he has, its stage, or what treatment he received. Although one report framed the news as melanoma-related, the quoted disclosure identifies it only as “skin cancer.”
What to do about a changing mole or spot
A new or changing mark is a reason to contact a dermatologist, not a way to diagnose yourself. The American Academy of Dermatology says a suspicious spot may need a skin biopsy; examination of the tissue in a laboratory determines whether cancer is present and what type it is. The AAD advises seeing a board-certified dermatologist if a spot or growth is growing, bleeding, or changing.
The three most common skin cancers are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Their diagnosis and treatment depend on the specific findings; Jowsey’s disclosure does not identify which, if any, of these types was found.
How to keep track of your skin
Self-checks can help you notice a change, but they cannot replace a professional assessment. The American Cancer Society advises people to know their usual pattern of moles and other marks and to have new or changing spots checked promptly. Many doctors recommend checking monthly; the ACS does not issue its own skin-cancer early-detection guideline, so that interval should not be treated as a universal rule.

Protecting yourself from UV is a controllable prevention measure, which gives context to Jowsey’s public reminder to wear sunscreen. Sunscreen is not a substitute for noticing changes or getting a concerning spot checked.
