The WB series ran for eight seasons, from 1998 to 2006. Its best-known cast change came after season three: Rose McGowan joined as Paige, the sisters’ half-sister, while Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano continued as Piper and Phoebe.
How the Halliwell cast changed
Shannen Doherty played eldest sister Prue alongside Combs as Piper and Milano as Phoebe during the first three seasons. After Doherty’s departure, McGowan entered in season four as Paige, creating a new sister trio with Combs and Milano. Paige remained through the series finale. Entertainment Tonight’s August 2018 cast retrospective describes the transition, while TV Guide’s cast listing records the series’ eight-season run and principal roles.

The Halliwell sisters
Shannen Doherty as Prue Halliwell
Doherty played Prue for the first three seasons. She died on July 13, 2024, at age 53, according to Le Monde’s July 14, 2024 obituary. Her role as Prue belongs to the show’s original sister lineup; she was not part of the season-four-and-later cast.
Holly Marie Combs as Piper Halliwell
Combs played Piper throughout the series, bridging both versions of the Halliwell trio. Us Weekly’s 2025 cast update reports that she cohosts The House of Halliwell rewatch podcast with fellow Charmed cast members Drew Fuller and Brian Krause. That is a documented post-series connection to the show; the report does not establish the podcast’s latest release or a comprehensive account of Combs’s current work.

Alyssa Milano as Phoebe Halliwell
Milano played Phoebe in the original sister trio and remained in the cast after Paige arrived. The cited cast records confirm her role, but do not establish a dependable current project update. Her place in the show’s two sister lineups is clear; a more detailed account of her present-day work would require a current, authoritative source.
Rose McGowan as Paige Matthews
McGowan joined in season four as Paige, the Halliwells’ half-sister, after Prue’s departure. She stayed through the end of the series. Entertainment Tonight’s 2018 retrospective and Le Monde’s 2024 obituary describe this cast transition; neither supports a detailed present-day work update here.

What “then and now” can establish
The cast record makes the on-screen timeline straightforward: Doherty, Combs and Milano formed the first-season sister trio; McGowan joined Combs and Milano from season four onward. For living cast members, the sources cited here establish roles and, in Combs’s case, the reported rewatch podcast, but do not provide a full or continuously current career picture. Treat older “where are they now” features as dated snapshots rather than evidence of present activity.
