The awards set was not the original television set: production designer Brian Stonestreet and his team recreated the bar for the ceremony. The familiar setting gave the appearance the shape of a return to the show’s central gathering place rather than a conventional cast photo.

Why were the “2023” Emmys held in 2024?
“2023” refers to the awards cycle and the ceremony’s designation, not the date it was staged. The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards had originally been scheduled for September 18, 2023, but were postponed amid the Hollywood strikes and held on January 15, 2024. So the reunion happened in 2024 at the ceremony commonly called the 2023 Emmys.

Cheers ran for 11 seasons, from 1982 to 1993. The Emmy appearance brought five of its stars together around a newly recreated version of the bar, linking the ceremony’s look back at television history with the sitcom’s best-known setting.
