Alien returned to select theaters on April 26, 2024, for a limited 45th-anniversary engagement promoted as Alien Day. The presentation included a filmed conversation between director Ridley Scott and Fede Álvarez, director of Alien: Romulus, before the 1979 science-fiction horror film.
When did the Alien 45th-anniversary screenings happen?
The limited theatrical re-release began April 26, 2024, which was promoted as Alien Day. It marked 45 years since Ridley Scott’s Alien first reached theaters in 1979. The event is over; the listings document a special engagement, not an ongoing run. Atom Tickets’ event listing and Fandango’s April 16, 2024 announcement both identify April 26 as the return date.

What was shown before the movie?
The advertised presentation included “ALIEN: A CONVERSATION WITH RIDLEY SCOTT & FEDE ALVAREZ” before the feature. Fandango described the discussion as covering the film, including Scott’s account of the chest-burst scene. The pairing linked the original movie with Alien: Romulus, which was then upcoming; it was a special pre-film program, not part of the original 1979 release. Fandango’s announcement and the Atom Tickets listing give the program title and event details.
What were the El Capitan Theatre screenings?
Los Angeles’ El Capitan Theatre advertised a three-day engagement, April 26–28, 2024. Its announcement listed reserved seating and a historical ticket price of $15 per ticket:

These were El Capitan’s advertised times and price, not a nationwide schedule or a current ticket offer. The venue notice said dates and times were subject to change. BroadwayWorld Los Angeles’ April 16, 2024 report records the local details.

The event listings do not agree: Atom Tickets gives a runtime of 2 hours 5 minutes, while Fandango gives 1 hour 57 minutes. Neither listing explains the difference, so the sources do not establish which figure is correct. Atom Tickets; Fandango’s 2024 showtimes listing.
